Kinda surprised to see the RMK assault doesnt have the belt drive i was on the fence of RMK or Assault but the lack of Belt drive made up my mind or am i dumb and reading the website wrong?

was already a known prior to the official release.

'racers' need/prefer the adjustability of gearing for racing.
the belt drive will not have adjustable ratios upon its release.

Guess you are right didnt really think of that

Personally I would get a holdover '12 Assault if I were getting a new sled this year, the 10 lbs would be nice, but I wanted the belt drive. Looks like I am waiting until '14 for a new sled.

Ill prob not wait till 14 Ill Just get the PRO RMK and upgrade shocks the wide front end isnt really a must for me and i dont care alot for the comp track anyway

The '12 graphics though... :face-icon-small-ton

Yeah, I think it is pretty stupid that polaris is Building a sled for a small group of racers that only race 6 races per season. I think they would sell a lot more assaults if they had an option for the belt drive. I wonder how much a belt drive conversion is going to cost?

No Belt Drive! No Belt Drive!

DAMN IT! This is a show stopper for me. I love my 2011 Assault, and already told my dealer I was up for a new one. I was expecting that the Assault would hve the drive. I guess I understand the extra stress on the belt with the Assault track is probably the reason why. My second choice was a standard RMK as a 3rd sled. My wife has a 2012 RMK and it is a great sled. the steel bars are warmer for her, and I like the highbeam control on the bars.

However, you have to buy a Pro to get the low inertia drive, according to the website.

I had my nephew ride my Assault the other day on the trail as my 4 yr old daughter was getting tired. We rode for about 4 miles and I switched back and my sled was reading 191 degrees F. We were going to slow on the trail, and he is a newbie. I asked the Polaris rep at the 2013 demo at Ponds Lodge in IP for a Snow Check option for the 3rd cooler. he looked at me like I was from Mars. I don't know about anyone else, but I would sacrifice the 3 lbs for a little added assurance and flexibility in low or spring snow conditions. At minimum, Polaris could offer a cooler kit.
That is why I decided on a standard RMK for a 3rd sled.

I am not complaining, I am just saying I'm not spending this year becase of this. To bad. I sold my dragon (my back up 3rd sled) and have a large credit at the dealer. I guess I will go pick up a check instead.

Pretty sure they're not concerned about the belt drive holding up... it makes sense that they needed to have adjust-ability of gearing for racers...

Why not get a pro with Assault shocks? That's what I'm thinking of doing.... wanted the assault but wanted pow track and belt drive... so prob start with a pro and add on some assault stuff rather than starting with assault and adding on some pro stuff...

That's what I did with my wifes RMK. The assault A-arms are 230 each add front and rear shocks and it is alot of cash on top of the price of a PRO along with all of the other accessories that are desired. The regular RMK is 1k less, then adding the custom suspension is reasonable, and the extra cooler is there.

I don't really want to put 15K into a sled, the option is to wait until next year when the belt drive migrates to the rest of the RMK line, or wait to see if a kit becomes available to modify existing sleds. If there is a kit, an existing 11 low mile RMK would be a great option for my 3rd sled, and I could loan it out without worrying about engine temp.

Thats the whole reason I bought assaults last year was for the shocks. which are great! I don't even notice the wider suspension. If I was buying a new sled this year I'd buy a pro and put exits on it. you could sell your shocks off your new sled and not be too much in for an aftermarket set.

MHorse,

Are the A-arm and shock tower mount locations IDENTICAL on the Pro and the Assault?

So is it just a matter of longer arms and shocks? Interchangeable?

Can someone dumb down the real differences between the RMK,PRO-RMK, and the ASSAULT RMK?
thank you
Pat
