13 quick belt

It's a little tricky your first time without the tools, and some sleds are easier than others depending on tolerances. Yes, you should pull both pulleys. If you don't, you will be trying to twist and stretch the belt; which is hard to do and not good for the belt.

The belt change tools are pretty handy. With the tools, its a five or ten minute job.

Short of cutting it, I doubt you are getting it off without removing the pulleys. Removing the pulleys is exactly how you do it. It goes together with a new belt the same way.

If you spend a few minutes with a dremel tool you can make the re-install much easier. A little chamfer on the back side spline edges makes getting the pulleys started much easier. The $50 tools are probably worth it, though I changed my belt without them.

I got the tools to take the pulleys off..... Do they make a tool to change the belt or just to two sockets looking things to take the pulleys off???

From this thread:

A note of caution be very careful if attempting to install a belt without alignment studs as the belts don't stretch at all.

I highly recommend practicing this procedure at home with Beer if you take the Q.D. pulleys off and slightly chamfer all of the edges.

It makes reassembly much easier. The hard sharp corners that come from the factory make the job much more difficult even with the alignment studs and a real P.I.T.A.without them.

When removing or installing the Q.D belts try to move the pulleys as evenly as possible to avoid them binding.

Set the parking brake to remove the pulley retaining bolts.

Once you have removed the pulleys and belt it is very helpfull to debur the ends of both drive shafts and insides of the pulleys as shown in the pictures I painted the ends red with dye-chem to show the chamfered area better.

Before you start to reinstall the pulleys it helps to put an alignment marks to help orientate the top pulley with the splines.

After you screw in the alignment studs of your choice to put lower pulley and belt on.

Make sure to check the arrow on drive belt for correct direction then slightly engage the splines with the pulley
about 1/8"then carefully start the upper pulley on the alignment stud until it engages the splines once both are engaged you can work them on carefully.

Be sure that washers on the pulley bolts are installed with the crown up away from the pulley.Use blue Lock-Tite... I like to use the primer as it reduces the cure time.

Had to buy a new belt on my 13..... Good god that belt is not cheap.... I see the put some new bolts in with it.... Why is that??? And what is the long bolt for

It should have come with an instruction sheet. The long bolt is used on a '14.
I think they want you to use new bolts with the new thread lock to prevent them from backing out. The old ones are a one time use for the QD pulleys, but Id save them. Never know when you need a random metric bolt in a pinch.

I have the Happy Face tool ('13 & '14) if anyone is interested in buying it from me. I purchased it and never used it. I went with the TKI belt instead. Nothing wrong with the tool, it's brand new. Happy Face did a great job machining the tools. Just PM me.
