I am running my hot grips and headlight off of the orange wire in the six wire plug behind the fuel tank. The orange wire is live only when running and am using it to control a relay for headlight and hot grips directly from the battery. Is my relay unnecessary? It sounds like there is already a relay powering the orange wire, you can hear it click off five seconds after killing the engine. My concern was drawing too much current through the orange wire on a bike with touchy electronics. Ideas on accessory wiring would be greatly appreciated.

The way you are doing it is the safe way.
