1200 4-Tec video

That prob wasn't the best guy to do the explaining..

Definately a different sound to hear from a Ski Doo, and XP chassis.. looks like it could use some boost. ;)

haha! Yeah good ol' Pascal is kind of hard to understand. The Engineers weren't available to us so he had to take the bullet.

We rode with Pascal a bit too. That is him in the black ski doo gear in the very last shot. Super nice guy, great rider, just a little...French.

The sled was fun to ride. It was pretty much what I expected except maybe not as powerful as I had hoped. If I remember right the Vector out ran it.
I guess the only differences with the XR chassis (4 stroke) and xp chassis are the extra magnesium reinforced motor mounts for the heavier 1200 motor and the XR plastic is different. The XR plastic will fit on an XP but not the other way around according to Pascal.

We heard a rumor that Ski Doo isn't interested in putting the 1200 in a mountain chassis. I don't think it really matters anyway does it? Don't most of the serious 4 stroke guys build from the ground up on the 4 strokes anyway? (not rhetorical)

Would you believe they got a proto. XR 146'' with a 1000sdi.....to bad it ain't a 154'', I'd pay big bocks to get my hand on that one

reliablility, less maintance, less fuel, oil changes not check the gas fill the oil

Plain and simple, 4 strokes are too heavy for mountain riding. If they can offer a 4 stroke with a turbo or a super charger, then we'll be talking. Snowmobiling has always been power to weight. If you are looking for a stock sled and want to consistently get the high mark why would you buy a heavier sled with less power? It makes no sense to me. Don't get me wrong, being able to turn the key and go is nice but honestly, 2 strokes have become much more reliable, less tempermental, and they are only going to get better. Again if you turbo or super charge a 4 stroke it's a different story. Just my .02

mcx turbo

This is from MCXpress web site.

Ski-doo new 4-stroke with MCX turbo for 2009.

MC Xpress is developing a turbo kit for the new Rotax 1200 4-TEC engine that will be released in the 2009 models of Ski-doo.

We will get back as soon we have the figures from dyno tests and maybe...maybe you might see the new ski-doo perform at our testing ground this spring or maybe on youtube.
If you want to be on the safe side! place your order today.

They said the same thing about Moto-x a few years ago (k little more than a few) and today the 4 stroke dominates the track. They will likely get this dialed in too. I love my 2 stroke sled like I used to love my 2 stroke bike. Some day I hope to love a 4 stroke sled (for all the reason listed already) as much as I love to ride my 4 stroke rocket of a bike. It is the way of things...

I understand what you're saying here. We've all seen the change from 2 strokes to 4 strokes in moto x. But, I think that's kind of like comparing apples to oranges. Moto x and deep powder mountain riding are two completely different animals IMO. I could be completely off here and I appologize for that, but I don't think you have to worry about burrying a bike in 2 feet of powder or staying a-float on 2 feet of powder to get to the top of a hill.

Don't get me wrong, I like the idea of a 4 stroke mountain sled but they are going to have to figure out a way to get the right power to weight ratio before they can compete and I don't know if they will ever be able to come close to the power to weight ratio of a 2 stroke. I also think we'll see more 4 stroke mountain sleds in the future, there's no denying that but I don't believe they're going to be the future.

Alright, I'm going to stop beating this dead horse. I usually get a good laugh listening to everyone debating which stroke is better and which brand is better. I guess I don't know why we debate over it. Ride what makes you happy and enjoy the sport. I think we're all lucky to be able to go the places our sleds take us and to be able to see the things we see every ride. :beer;

They are not the wave of the future there here!!! two strokes are just livin out there lives(2000miles)!!! Power top weight??? thats easy, skidoo will be able to get there sled way lighter then yammi because yammi builds alot with steel, and then its just a matter of time before u can buy factory hairdryers!!!!

They are way to reliable to not offer them soon from factory, way more reliable then a 800 doo.(I have 1 06/3 07/ 2/08) and they have not had many problems but one is already getting an engine.

Great to see DOO with a Four, hopefully it does not tarnish 4stroke reliablilty with there track record of late...

And for weight my nytro will be 10-20lbs under five and 280hp, now thats power to weight.
