12 SBA 800 dies

I had just restarted the sled after a short break, water temp was perfect 125, had just topped up my tank at the pump, 91 non-eth, added iso as I always do, an oz of mineral oil as well. few miles down the trail it died like you hit the kill switch, but I didn't... in the dark I changed the plugs, not fouled, but DRY? swapped the plugs, checked them for spark - OK. trailside compression test - OK.

Tried restarting and got nothing. fiddle with it a bit, swapped plugs and it would fire and die right away. I got a tow out of the bush and after the few miles when we hit the road, I tried it again and it fired right up, idling perfect for about 45 seconds, then the RPM spikes to 2200 or so and it shuts off. can't start it again...

Fuel pump? Injectors? plugged filter? loose wire?

I have fouled a few sets of plugs on cold start this year, otherwise runs flawless.

I have a new filter in there this season as well.

any insight is much appreciated.

Do you have a tether? Mine did a similar thing yesterday when trying to start it. It would fire them die a few seconds after and wouldn't stay running. I took out the tether and now it's running great.

My sled is doing the same exact thing I had to get a tow out in Cooke Friday and haven't looked at it yet but thinking my tps maybe went out

I hate when these threads don't get updated with the solutions...

Mine turned out to be simple, thankfully: a wire for the fuel pump that goes into the plug above the secondary had come loose.

what seemed like a fuel / pump issue was, the power to the pump was cutting out. problem solved!

nice! im gonna dig into mine tomorrow hopefully find the problem....I started it last night and it ran just fine in the garage but there still has to be a reason why it killed on me in Cooke last Friday....:mmph:
