12' Polaris Pro RMK QUESTIONS

Back to Polaris this year and first off GREAT SLED!! VERY Impressed so far coming off a 11' M8!

Questions

*Brake squeal sounds like brake is on when its not? Normal?

*Clutching or something else? Riding 9500+ Elevation
First ride- ran great 8000-8100 RPM's all day even with break in gas.

Second Ride- Would hit 8100 then drop down to 7800-7900

Third Ride- Put 60 Gram weights in Primary clutch hoping to get target RPM and Hold 8100-8200, Everything else is stock and no can. Beginning of day sled would hit 8200 and then fall off too 78-7900.
End of day seemed to be getting worse would not hit 8000 and hold only 7600-7700 RPM's
Is this normal? Do I need a softer primary spring? ( has stock black in now) I was expecting sled to improve as it got broke in.

Checked:
Track Tension
Chain Tension
Belt Deflection
Primary spring looks good and belt looks good

Have not changed plugs (Issue?)

Currently have around 100 miles and ten hours

Any input on this would be great not very familiar with Polaris yet! Thanks!

The brake squeal is not normal. For 9500+, you need 58s. It should be in the 82-8300 rpm range with these, it will fall off a little from there when in the deep, but not much.

Do the 58's require a different spring? And what would cause it to drop off that drastic? It puzzles me that it seemed to run better the first day with 62's stock weights. Snow conditions have been consistent. I will check oil level too thanks

58's are good in the primary and do not require a different spring. The secondary does have an alternate spring for high altitude you may want to look into.

Re check your track tension as I am tightening mine for the third time in 150 miles, they stretch.

the 11'speced black/purple sec spring..12's should to but I havent looked...I would go down on helix up that high personally..60/40 or 58/38 even..will help backshift and keep the R's up...also add a delrin or two and shoot for 8150 on the recorder...not the guage...

My brake has a noise to it also, more of a hiss than a squeal. It is mentioned in the manual that the drilled brake disc will make some noise and it is normal.

As already stated you probably need around 58g for your elevation. When you say your rpm drops off, under what conditions? Is the track loaded or on the road? Clutch for loaded conditions. You will probably see more rpm on the road then loaded. Make one change at a time. First the weights, second stiffer secondary spring (if needed to hold rpm) third different helix, something with a 2 degree shallower finish angle

Tri City found the RMK brake to be dragging and added springs between the pads to force them away from the disc. I believe they are selling spring kits for less than $10. Will be doing the same to mine.

Could this be the "hissing" sound I am hearing when running my new 12 Pro? The sound is certainly drivetrain related and not engine related. I also noticed that the sound seems to change note/tone when you go to apply the brake...I am wondering if my brake is dragging???

Exactly! No hissing brake noise is "normal"! Do a search and you'll find plenty of info here on the dragging brake issue that plagues the LAME Hayes brakes on the Pro. Let's just say it's a damn good thing Poo put the oil resy on the PTO side!!! This fix has been at the top of my wish list for a long time. I'm calling them tomorrow!

Have FUN!

I would just get the spring. Most brakes will drag a little, but not so much you can hear them when running.

X2!! My rotor has turned a pretty shade of blue!! :ear:

You may have a faulty selinoid on an exhaust valve. I have a friend with a 12 163 that couldnt pull the wieght that he should for our elevation. That's what his turned out to be. Brand new, zero miles..

I have brake drag for sure. Does it ever where in? Or should a guy just get that spring

I was hoping for this too but the only thing that wore in was my rotor from the brake dragging, it is grooved where the pads touch now!

Have FUN!
