Considering a 2012 Ford F250 Powerstroke shortbed and wanted to get some real reviews from people who have them, but who have also owned driven Chevy 2500's.

No brand bashing please....

Someone has a 2011 in for sale section - black crew cab, sure looks good.

Check out thedieselstop.com forums for owners experience. Lots of info there.

Mechanically my 2011 is sound - great power. Some aggravating squeaks/wind noise well documented in those above mentioned forums. But for towing mine has been flawless. Very powerful / brakes well / handles well in my opinion.

I haven't heard anything bad about the 6.7's, beside some tranny issues but I think was taken care of. Chevy/GMC is pretty bulletproof imo. Can't go wrong with Ford or GM now. I personally like the Ford interior more. Pretty much depends on what symbol you want to look at on the steering wheel while your driving it. (Ford has a hell of a warrenty right now to, I believe its lifetime if you do all of your oil changes and such at a Ford dealer)

Lifetime is awesome but I didn't see that on the Ford site a second ago when I looked at their warranty. Maybe it is somewhere else but I'd think they would have it up front to really promote it. Here is what I saw for Ford Warranty:

Bumper to Bumper: 3 years / 36,000 miles
Powertrain: 5 years / 60,000 miles
Safety Restraint System: 5 years / 60,000 miles
Corrosion (Perforation only): 5 years / Unlimited miles
Roadside Assistance Program: 5 years / 60,000 miles

GM looks like 5yr/100,000 mile powertrain warranty.

love my ford

love my 12 f 350. the back seat is alot easier to get in and out of than the chevys we have. love the leather bucket seats in front. the ride isint as good empty as a chevy but its a truck so who cares. power is great and so is milege. cant really say anything bad about it

Still liking my 12 F250 crew 4x4 long bed. No problems so far(12K), big improvement from 05. No plugging in(unless it's getting close to zero), no waiting for glow plugs, no noise, no smoke, lots of power, lots of options, better gas mileage than my 6.0. The urea is not as big of a deal as some make it out to be. Good trade off to no smoke and almost no smell.

FX4 is a waste unless you need the skid plates(not sure if you still get the locking diff without FX4). The Rancho branded shock do not work, I installed some Fox 2.0's(including stabilizer) and that made it ride much better. navigation is nice but the speakers are horrible. Just swapping speakers makes the system worthy but still a shame for the $1800 price.

I would spend money on a extended warranty and leave it stock. 400hp/800tq should be plenty for most. Chevy has a little more grunt but so close it's not the deciding factor.

As a Ford technician i have to say the new 6.7 is a awesome engine. It's the only ford diesel i would own other then a 7.3! There quiet, get good gas mileage and i have not seen any major problems, the biggest repair i have seen on a 6.7 is a leaking water pump! We have a customer that comes in with 70k on this 6.7 and he hasn't had any problems! I would own a new 6.7 other then the 60k price tag!

I've got 94k on my 2002 6.0 GM gas and I haven't had any problems and the water pump still seems to be good, but maybe 70K on a diesel without problems is an accomplishment. Just saying.

Well going from the 6.0 and 6.4 the 6.7 seems to be a great engine! I remember them pushing the 6.0's new off the delivery trucks because they wouldn't run!!!

A lower powered engine like yours should last longer. Thats one trade off of having 800 ft-lbs vs 360.

I haven't driven the '12 Ford but I do think the rear seat room is better than my '11 Denali HD. My truck is flat wicked awesome! Power is amazing, ride is awesome and amenities are luxury car. The exhaust brake is worth every penny if you tow. I read a recent review and the GM still holds an edge in power. Ford might make that up in interior depending what you like. I would avoid the Dodge for now. I'm sure I'll get flammed by some Cummin's guy, but they didn't do well in the tests I read. If you are not biased, go drive both brands and go with what you like. If you are around/near Colorado I know someone who will hook you up with a brand new sick GMC!

I have had my short bed 2000 Lariat F-250 since December of 99.
Next truck will NOT be a short bed...and will NOT be an f-250.

Next one is a long box f-350.

i myself prefer the gm over the fords. but also depends on what you can get the best deal on and if ya have an in at one place or the other.

what i was told from an ex gm service manager that is now a ford service gm manager. was that the gm warranty was alot more "dealer biased" the dealer made the decision on the warranty. he didnt like the ford warranty as they sent up alot of people to check on it and they would make the decision back at corporate whether or not it was warrantied.

but either new diesel truck i dont think you could go wrong with :)

No purchase yet, been very busy with work. I really like the Ford, but I got to drive a Supercharged Tundra, that's just plan wicked. Need more money for the toys.

supercharged tundra? Just curious as to why as they seem to be completely different end product that you would get...especially with the capacity to tow differential...not to mention that the diesel is likely to end up being much more reliable...

The supercharged Tundra puts about 500 hp and 500 ft/tq - not bad for a gasser. I will primarily use it for regular driving, with some occassional towing. Additionally, the supercharger is a factory sell direct from Toyota.

Not to mention the ride quality is much smoother of the Tundra than any 3/4 ton I have driven or ridden in.
