WOW, did those bins just fold in from the wind? That is crazy. You guys in Iowa can't catch a break lately. Glad to hear nobody was hurt.

The weather guy was taling about these type of storms the other day.

It is a result of a thunderstorm collapsing. Warm moist aire rises to +- 50,000 feet, then cools off and gets denser, eventually collapsing under its own weight, producing very high winds.

That sucks for ya. I hope you get the yard back in shape soon

Honestly, when I was in the basement I really thought it would be worse. I wondered if the house/buildings would take it. I was the only one home, kids were out of harms way. I have been thru some nasty storms, tress and yard not that big of a deal.:beer;

hey yardfarmer what part of IA you from? I haven't heard of anything from back home, has this affected northcentral at all from ft dodge to algona?
glad to hear everyone was ok

Southwest Iowa, I live 20 miles east of Council Bluffs/Omaha NE. I think it was about a 10 mile wide storm that took the lifes of 2 eighteen year old kids in CB when a tree fell on thier car. Then it continued out past our area. I have not hear anything about your area, so possible all is well. Stay safe over thier Meatman!

wow sucks to hear about the 2 18 year olds for sure. it's been more dangerous in iowa than it has here! Hasn't it been over 50 some years since the last time we've had winds l ike that? I remember hearing stories but I've never seen anything like that. who's bins are those? my ol man puts up souix bins but he's been pretty busy this year already...actually thats an understatement he's been workin his *** off when its not raining

About 5 years ago we had a storm like that come through with over 100 MPH straight winds. It took a 5 year old 12,000 bushel bin off the foundation. The bin blew clear over the shelter belt and landed behind the house with the roof of the bin 15 feet from the house. The trees were about 20 feet high, but had no signs of the bin going through it. It must have pretty much cleared the top of the tree line before falling in the back yard.

I can't recall the company name on the bins I will look tonight, I think they are/were 80,000 bushell each.
