I put a 7 piece vent kit on my sled and then put a speedwerx can on and was ridding over the weekend and when I got done I noticed the pannle warping a little so I pulled it off and it was melting at the bottom right where one of the vents are. WTF! Has anyone else had this happen to there's?

i havent actually seen any melting but with mine on one of my top hood screws is sorta exposed like the panel warped out a bit, im almost positive the panel is on right and i havent had the hood off yet so maybe its just the hood for me, ill have to check

Do you have aftermarket exhaust?

In talking to a Cat engineer, they initially had issues with heat on several early editions of the muffler. Even now, with the final product, the side panels get VERY hot. I bubbled the stickers on the muffler side because of the heat......

You need to vent these things!

I am going to wait on a new can until next year and wait for others to test the heat these cans put off.

I dont think we have heard the last on the heat both stock/aftermarket cans are putting off under the hood

Just to clarify.

Cat tried several different muffler designs. Each one before the one they have now, melted the side panels or belly pan or both.

Be careful about what can you buy........Its not all about weight

I had this problem. There is a plastic duct on the clutch side panel that is supposed to vent heat from the y pipe area of the sled. It melted my vent real good. I installed an new vent and took off the duct work. Might have been a bad idea but I will try it out. I have a 6 piece moflo vent kit as and installed hood vents last week. Headin to Revy on saturday so I will see how it holds up. Might end up melting the factory plenum now but am hoping there is enough room to get all that heat out.

Melting panel

Mine is also melting. Installed a speedwerx can. It is also melting the vent hose on the chain case. Not happy. Melted side panel and the lower belly pan.

No melting on either side of mine so far. Put a stage two d and d barker for aftermarket with a muff pot for some dry ribs, works very good. Have had it heated up and rolled over to get unstuck as well and nothing melted or warped any where. I have not done any extra venting on mine either. Wierd.

From what little riding I have been able to do, I noticed the excessive heat.
So I wrapped my exhaust in Header Wrap.

I am going to put a ton of heat tape on my can. I honestly cannot figure out how a highflow can gets so hot. There is no restriction, and the stock one has to have alot of restriction to make it as quiet as it does. The can I am going to try now is a two brothers aluminum can. The can I had before was a Muzzy carbon fiber. The carbon fiber seemed not like the heat.

When I called Speedwerx several weeks ago, they were not ready to ship the new 1100T Cans because they did not have enough "real world" testing, and they were waiting for enough snow to test.......

Apparently they got impatient..........

I would wait to do the muffler on the 1100T

The only thing I can think of is possibly the huge suitcase is a giant heatsink. So it allows the heat to dissapate over a very large surface area thereby reducing the heat signature in any particular direction......

Just a guess??

I like KSH idea of header wrap. That can handle insane temps and likely would be just warm to the touch.

I have the speedwerx can on mine and i do have it vented and it still melted. I too am not very happy about this.

Im running a d&d straight pipe and it melted everything side pannel, chain case breather hose and black breather box worst of all after a hard pull I would shut sled off and it would blow the radiater cap off from all the heat. Replaced all the bad parts and heat wrapped the straight pipe and stock header 200 miles no more problems.

Got a speedwerx can on the way. Sounds like I need to get some tape and wrap. You guys got me spooked.

I called speedwerx today to ask them/inform them about my side pannle melting and the answer i got was to heat tape my pannle. So then i say to him how am i supposed to heat tape my pannle when i have a vent kit on it. Then he said that it shouldnt be melting my pannle. WTF so that means its just always gona keep melting my pannle/vent right by the can. Sounds great! So do any of you have suggestions?

im gonna wrap the piss out of mine with header wrap when i order my can, hopefully that will do it, i cant imagine it wouldnt, if it doesnt melt stock with bare exhaust pipe and no vents it shouldnt vented to piss with header wrap
