Sled will only hold 7000 rpm on a deep poll. Checked for boost leaks but am at a loss and have no idea. Any help out there

1. Put a boost gauge on it. . .
2. Check clutches for free movement.
3. Deglaze clutch faces.
4. Check throttle for full operation.

Sled should pull 12-13lbs of boost at sea level wide open.
15-16lbs at 5000ft
17-18lbs at 10000ft

Is boost one of the 10 magical diagnostic outputs from the gauge? I'm sure it wouldn't be in PSI, but if you knew what it was on a sled functioning correctly you could use it to compare.

I dont know and my dealer didn't know. The cat manual doesn't say.

I am going to tee into the BOV hose off the intercooler for my boost gauge.

Electrical...

Make sure your battery is fully charged. Check that your battery cables are tight. Make sure your spark plug boots are on fully.

Mine was doing the same thing. I charged the battery over night. dealer tightened the battery cables and found a plug boot not on all the way. Ever since then it has been running flawless.

May not be the case with your, but it was on mine. Worth a try.

Did you notice any other symptoms? I predict that the plug boost not being seating caused the issue. Did it idle poorly or anything?

Yes. Not only was it not pulling enough RPM, it was starting hard and back firing.

The reduced RPM was from the sled going into limp mode from low voltage code.

No codes picked it up from dealer and they found nothin and gave it back to me. I will check plug wires and battery cables

Low voltage is a major deal with performance with these things.
Your problems could have been fixed by charging the battery.

Well ya... but I did not know that at the time. I do know that now. I rode my sled the day after I picked it up back in December. I didn't have it for several days, weeks or months prior. There is a learning curve with these sleds. There wasn't a whole lot of knowledge of the sleds at the time on the forums. We learn and pass it on through Snowest. That's what we're here for. Just passing along my .02

The ignition pulls a ton of volts from the battery and the charging system can't keep up. I charge my battery on a trickle charger the night before I ride.

Shouldn't these sleds charge them selfs up if any is charging is needed?? Brand new battery should last least one season I would think.

Sorry, didn't mean jump on you and I had not seen your earlier post.

My understanding is that it is using all the possible charging power to run the system at max rpm.
So if your not doing any trail riding your not actually charging the battery.

KSH... no problem.

I don't think they are fully charged when we get them. Ever since I charged mine it has been nearly fully charged since. Just make sure it is charged before you ride. The cold isn't good on them anyway.

Well. . . Have have been having the same issue as listed above with the sled not pulling rpm in the deep. I rode it two days and it was perfect it would pull 7900-8100 rpm then the third day it would only pull about 7200 rpm in the deep. It would still pull 7750 on the trail but that the trail.

A guy on HCS said that he scotchbrited his clutch sheeves and the rpm cam right back. I haven't been able to check to see if this fixes it. I have done a leak test on the boost system, had the dealer check the computer, Checked the clutchs to make sure they are not binding and causing a issue, checked the battery voltage, checked the spark plug wire for being seated. Through all this I found no apparent issues. I will be installing a boost gauge to see that I am getting correct boost levels and go from there as that is what I expect I think that the wastegate control valve is malfunctioning. Another thing that has been debated over on HCS is the routing of the BOV hoses to the BOV selonoid. Some are finding that theres are not to spec of the cat diagram. Mine is oppsite the diagram but has always been that way and it did work well for about the first 200 miles. I may switch it to how the digram shows as well.

Hopefully this gives you a few things to check. I would think that your dealer could help you out if they have snow. We don't have any snow here so it is hard to check boost levels.
