1100t HOT BOXING IT.

Roll the windows down. . .

Haha. Now to business. The hood on the 1100t is heavy and the air intake setup while good is alot of the weight. The hood offers zero venting other than to the intercooler. The side panels have far to little venting as well. So thats the problem.

Here is my solution to the problem.

Center hood section for 1100NA. I will cut out the intercooler vent area so it is the same as the 1100t hood. I am going to port the crap out of it. There is alot of area that is covered by the shiny plastics on the hood that could have a million holes in it. Removing the headlight(cut weight) and going to use that area for the air intake. I am going to remove the stock air intakes on the bottom of the upper plenum(cut weight). The underside air intake will be gone(cut weight). Holes all over the place on the center hood covered in vents. The bottom line is heat rises so why not vent the top of the hot box. I may put a few vents on the side panels but honestly I think vents in the side panels make them weak and really get abused and look like crap in a short time fromm trees. Will still be able to do a windshield I like the two pc one that Skinz showed with there hood. It looks sporty. I obviously could save a few more lbs without some of the detail but I really like the lines on the hood of my sled and want to keep that look.

Here are some pics. I just got the center section today so I have not done much other than fit it up. The center section for the 1100NA is about $90-$110 from cat. It weighs like 4-5lbs. I am not sure how much the skinz hood weighs but I would think for $500 it better be light.

any updates?

I was out of town over the weekend and I worked on my header and exhaust last night instead. I figure I would finish one thing first. I hope to work on it this evening a little. Should be pretty sweet. I would guess it will be about 10-12 lbs light and breathe alot better and still look cool.

Can't wait to see how this comes out! How are you gonna deal with air filter is one question that comes to mind?

Air filter will not pull from stock location anymore. That whole setup is alot of the weight that I am going to cut. I have mocked up a couple things right now and will get some pics tonight. I am not to far into it. I want to take my time and be do something that makes me happy in the end.

The stock filter setup is good but just is far to much weight imo.

Here are a few pics. . . Nothing to outstanding. You can see from the pics the aluminum pcs. I plan to make a cage in there to hold the upper console. This will be wrapped in Mesh. Should make for a good intake area and I will route the intake into this area.

A couple more ideas. If I get rid of the headlight console I can make it lighter But I don't like the way it looks as much.

I could put the windshield on it like this and put a air filter behind it or just put a cover over it like BDX did.

Also highly contemplating Putting the filter behind the Windshield with the console rather than in the headlight area. It will be alot of work to get the headlight area to seal up like I want. As It is right now I could use my headlight cover as a template and make a new cover that is slightly larger and cover that area. There are really many ways different ways a guy can do it and still cut a ton of weight and vent the crap out of it.

I just was browsing ebay and saw that Country cat has a 800 hood center PC for $50 on there. I paid $90 for mine. . .

Little help for ya :face-icon-small-ton

no I meant that the head smashing into the wall is how you must have felt about that. :thumb:

Yeah no doubt. . . O well. I am a little concerned about actually cutting weight. I am likely going to do what I can to cut the most weight while maintaining the stock lines of the hood. I think in the end I may wait till haydays to see what skinz and BDX have done to cut weight. I am sure skinz hood is thin thin, The BDX does not look thin though.

I can tell you customizing a hood is a sh@t ton of work. I've done my last 3 sleds. My 1100 one I think have 28 hours into it. You start playing with lines and chopping stuff and it never ends. I did take an extra 7 hours to make a new gauge mount, chop the window 1.5" and make new mounts moving it all forward 3" so the goggle warmer fit after the 3" forward post relocate. Best time spent, goggle bag turned out to be more handy than I thought it would. Cheese sandwich melts, warm rice crispy cakes, etc lol.

No doubt will be keeping a area for the goggle bag. I enjoyed it for the use it was ment for. I love having a good warm dry set of goggles available. Nothing worse than not being able to see.
