I stopped in on the 10K cabin on a hiking trip this weekend and the cabin is looking a little rough. The window in the door is broken and plugged with insulation. The other window has been shot out. There's a few places where there's no insulation in the walls so a winter's night would be chilly. I carried some garbage out but there's more to be taken care of.

ATV access
I came up the ridge from the east. The closest logging spur road is narrow and a bit rocky but not technical. There was an F150 coming up as I was going out but it would be easier with an ATV. From the landing at the end of the road, there is a good ATV trail halfway to the cabin but then you'd have to hoof it the rest of the way (no point in trying to clear the rest of the route - it's too steep in parts). It looks like the original ATV route in was from the SE - probably from the next logging spur to the south of the one I was on. I think this is the start of the Gardner trail and I could see horse trailers at the trailhead so the road is good. No idea how difficult it would be to quad in from there.

When the Whiskey Jacks built the ten k cabin there were a couple of seious injurys comming back out on quads.Good riders too, I think John Lejune.Be careful.

A buddy and I went up to the 10k cabin on our quads on Oct 1/10. It was the first time up to the cabin when there is no snow. I didn't go in the cabin though. Picked up some garbage and cans around the cabin. The trail is a little tricky in a couple of spots. Steep, technical, no room for a mistake. But it sure was worth the ride. It was a good blue bird day for a ride. If there is more guys going up, let us know and we might be able to come and help with some repairs.
