1000 m Will it blow or not

here's the deal,I have a 08 1000 162 and my dealer is anti mod and I want slight mod.I have added a slp can and Y pipe with big air with no boondocker.I also have a 40 helix and 73 gram weights,I havent had it out yet with the mods. Now my dealer is telling me it will blow up,is there any truth to it,I would apreciate youre comments on this.

Just a can and Y, I think you will be just fine at that altitude! You should be close on that weight. If you said you had the pipe too, I would say get a box, but at that altitude put 92 octane gas in it and run it.

Straight up, It could.

At that elevation should be fine but I wouldn't run it. I had a slp y and can only on mine and my egt temps where getting over 1250 and had to back out of it, I know i could have burned mine down at 10,000ft. Take the y off and should be safe. But if it does go there wont be a warranty. I wont run any mods without egts, and if it close to 1250 or higher I would run a box(PCIII or PCV). One thing about it is you wont get all the power without tuning it.

Why risk it????? you can get used box for $150. That is allot cheaper than a entire new top end. Trust me, I had to replace mine twice this year already.

I ran a 2008 for about 2000 miles with a SW y-pipe and a mbrp can with no trouble but i wouldnt hold it open for long though

Rode an M1000 with the same mods and no issues. I did put a fuel regulator in just to be safe and it was fine. Sled had 2200 miles this way...

I'm running a similar setup, D&D can and Y-pipe, AMP head mod, fuel pressure reg, 91 octane. When I bought the sled it was set at 44psi. That seemed low to me so I bumped it up to 48psi at 1000 feet, and checked the plugs at about 4000 ft after a fairly long pull and they were pretty white. At 53 psi my plugs are nice and tan after a long pull but it runs pretty fat down low. Havnt fouled a plug yet. Will probably do a box and EGTs soon, but the thing rips as is and it seems safe, over 800 miles this year, so far so good...

Every sled is different but i ride an 08 M1000 with stock pipe, slp Y pipe, MBRP can, Timbersled intake and i had Linderman machine my head for premium. I run egts and have not seen over 1200 degrees. Highest temps are when cruising down the trail at steady 3/4 throttle opening so i make sure i am on and off the throttle all the time when on the trail to the good stuff:face-icon-small-hap. Don,t know what my fuel pressure is at right now.

Flat out risky. Go for it but, don't go away thinking you weren't warned. I suggest............... when doing engine mods.........FUEL BOX!

With a pipe and intake work you should at LEAST run EGT,s and a fuel reg at altitude and run GOOD fuel or a couple of gallons of 110 per tank just too keep the octane up. I have run my sled several ways one with no fuel box and SLP y pipe, pipe, can and BDX intake and the EGTs get sketchy. With that combo and the stock pipe and fuel reg at 47-48 lbs it was no issue, but now I am back on the Box with the SLP pipe it just runs better with it.

y pipe and can

my dealer told me i could run a y pipe and can without the box on my 08 m1000 as long as i didn't have the new reflash done to my sled. Have been running it at 2500ft all the way to 7500 and haven't had any trouble yet.
running 87 for fuel

i have got the same sled and ride at 6000 feet. all i have on is a slp can and rkt secondary clutch. I finally got emailed yesterday from SLP saying that they finally got a map for my sled for the PC-V made with the 09 updates done to the ecu and the slp pipe kit and intake. Dyno sheet was 192hp and 140 ft lbs. suposed to work with all elevations. A true pull the rope and go. That is what is going on my sled.

Wondering why at over 6000 ft when my sled was stock i could still pull 85 gram weights on the 3 post to get 7400rpm? My sled works great. never got beat by any 09's yet! but im spinning alot more weight than alot of people. Just curious. It must be making power then...

Did you ride with any 09's.:D

most of the time when running that heavy of weights it causes slippage, it can increase performance in some cases but will ruin the belt. I would put any stock 09 against any stock 08 and the 09 would win, there is no comparison in the kind of riding I do.
