100 pounds...really???

A few days ago I read a post that had a list of things that could be done to a stock apex to reduce the weight by 100 pounds for a couple of thousand bucks. I own a 2007 apex and I am not really interested in a turbo or super charger but I would be really interested in cutting the weght down if that can be done like the post indicated.

I cannot relocate the referred to post so I hope someone can point me in the right direction. What I really need to know is if there is someone who would do the stuff for me. Thanks for any info

There was a thread this summer that had a couple of long lists of components and the weight reduction each one of them offered. its here, just spend a couple minutes going through the last 100 threads.

yep 100lbs can be cut but its a tad more than a couple thousand, heres whats needed to strip an apex down .
front suspension with fox floats-14lbs
rear suspension with fox floats-30lbs
seat-7lbs
drop brackets-8lbs
under tunnel exhaust-15lbs
gutted or aftermarket tunnel-10-25lbs
aftermarket hood/headlight delete 5lbs
battery-5lbs

thats 109 right there and theres still more little odds and ends you can do, to drop 100+lbs its gonna cost around 6k, after all said and done you can do turbo for the same price

If you are on a 2K budget. Your best bet performance and weight loss wise would be to put a timbersled skid in it. Will drop 38lbs. off the sled, off the top of my head i believe. Give me a call if you are interested or have any questions and I can get one shipped out to you. Cody (306) 773-4948

drops 30lbs and weighs 36lbs

Take all these weight loss numbers with a grain of salt. I just finished lightweighting an 06 Apex for my son and we digitally weighed every single part and after you put stuff back on like the new drop brackets etc etc the true number is closer to 80 lbs. Timbersled front end loses 12 lbs on an Rx1 but less on an Apex cause the Apex already has an aluminum upper A arms and lots of Apexes came with floats. A guy can get into the 90's with some ingenuity like aluminum bumper brackets, steering rod, Cromo steering post etc but the last 10 lbs aren't worth the time or $$. Drop the skid, the luggage rack, get a lightweight seat, do an under tunnel exhaust with a $35.00 glasspack, a YTZ7s battery, lightweight hood with headlight delete, maybe a front end if you've got the $$ and you'll be over 80 gone. You'll feel the difference.

Best mod for a Deltabox chassis IMO is a Rev tank. You'll notice the weight off the front more than any other mod you can do even though you won't drop an ounce.

It can be done no problem, But its way more then 2k. Here is my list.
Timber sled front end with Floats.
7S battery.
Sway bar Removed.
Parking brake assemble removed.
High Ride seat.
Aluminum under tunnle exhaust.
Fabcraft skid with floats.
Aluminum drop brackets.
Rear rack removed.

Biggest weight loss is the stock seat/exhaust and rear skid. Those 3 parts are very heavy. Those 3 parts alone drop about 70lbs. Eric

I dont see buying a timbersled skid worth it for a non turbo BUDGET apex. Buy an M series skid for less than half and lose 30 lbs.

Timbersled rear
Timbersled front
Fox floats all around
Boss seat
Undertunnel exhaust
Porting a 174" track with 3 holes in the middle will loose 7.2lbs according to the guy I bought my sled from
And remove the rear rack on the 07's

Is there a shop around that will do this work or is it something that I can do....I am not a moron but wrenching on sleds is not something I've done a lot of

its all bolt on so its fairly easy. if you know how to turn a wrench or 2, you should be fine, most parts come with good instructions,

thanks roughrider...been looking around for some of the parts..where would you reccomend or are there some guys on the forums who are in the business that would be good to deal with

wats the capacity of a rev tank? i can get one for nearly free.

It's 10.7 gallons or there abouts. If it is from an SDI sled it will have all the proper fittings otherwise you may need to spin weld a return fuel line fitting onto the tank which is no big deal, cost me $20.00 to have it done. Either way I would grab the tank cause guys are starting to want them for Nypexes.
