10 hour break in question

Stupid Question, I just bought a new 09 summit xp 146 and I have been reading about people talking about how their sled really rips after 10 hours on the motor. Are they getting the computer reflash after 10 hours or does the computer inside the sled reflash its self? I came from a 02 summit 700 and Im learning. Would like some help. What are best improvements to make to the sled without spending alot of money?

i bought my ;08 800 summit everest and it was quick out of the box, but there was 0 hours and 0 miles on it i wondered the same, it burned a whole tank of oil to a little under a tank of gas after i hit 10 hours the motor woke up i didnt have to do anything to it but it was a huge difference the computer does everything you need, i know there has a been a few people tell me about the oil cable coming from the factory out of adjustment so i had it checked by the dealer. he actually reccomended i put a silencer on it because the stock one was so big if you hit anything it will melt the plastic, they have had a few people have that happen.

There are so many stories going around, noone seems to know for sure. My dealer said that there was no more 'break in chip' or computer programmed break in period etc., however now after a few local sleds really woke up at exactly the 6hr marker he's wondering with the rest of us what the deal is.

Mine has almost 6 hrs on it now (2 rides) and does seem to burn more oil than I expected, it has pretty good power through the range but still doesn't keep up with other revs or '08 xps out there. I read in another thread about a 13 hr break in period. So who knows, 6, 10, 13 - I think the point is that whatever the time period may be, they do work a lot better when broken in. I wouldn't be in a rush to start modding or adjusting anything until you reach this 10+ hr marker, let the sled sort itself in a stock condition. That's my opinion.

Felt the difference and pulled more r's somewhere around 620miles. Didn't check the hours but it was a dog before this. I didn't beleive the "chip" either and still not sure but something turned over in a snap.

Every sled runs better after a couple tanks of fuel, everything loosens up. I am told no timing retard on the '09's.

amazing what a difference a sled will run like after the motor loosens up a little.........they typically burn less oil and less gas. I would bet on no 'chip', myself but who knows for sure

Man... how can there be so many answers to this? May as well throw what i was told. After 10 hours bring the sled back to the dealer. He will go over all the usual stuff , recal the fat oil setting and reflash the ecm. He says you can see it on the computer , before reset the timing says - 1 , after reflash it says +2.

Thanks for all the replies. I have about 6 hours on it know and it runs the same has the day I bought it (nothing wrong with that I love it). It doesnt hardly use any oil, I think im on my third or fourth tank of gas and just filled the oil tank up. I guess i'll just keep riding and see what happens. Still use the 700 and this thing kills it.
