1/2 ton chevy with sled deck?

I have a 2001 Chevy 1/2 ton extended cab 6'-6" bed lifted on 35s and
Has overload springs for hauling my boat / seld trailer. I'm thinking about getting a sled deck or building one either way I want aluminum. I'd be hauling two artic cat M8s one is a 162" and
The other is a 155" any suggestions? Is a half ton to small? Short bed to small for a 162" ? To much weight? Anyone build one? Thanks any info appreciated

steel decks can be made lighter, you can use less material so it'd be your best bet with a half ton, get out your drawing pad and calculator. Guys on here will tell you to not put a deck on a half ton. I know I wouldn't want one on a lifted half ton, std height with bags i'd be okay with. Goggle it you'll find tons of threads...

I don't know about a half ton with a lift. But I have an 09 Sierra just leveled out. I bought a TOYUP deck about 2 weeks ago and I absolutely love it! A lot of people told me not to do it here on Snowest and a few people told me not to worry about it. I had forgotten to even fill up the airbags but it hardly sagged I put air in the bags before we started driving and it leveled it perfectly. My truck handles the load great, get better fuel mileage, and the sleds stay clean. I would do it all over again if I had to. For sure when I buy a duramax i'll have a toy up deck again. Try it out and if you don't like it sell it that was my plan but I love it so I'm keeping it.
Sorry these are just from my cell phone.

Thanks for the input guys I think I'm goin to end up getting one. Worth a shot. If I don't like it I'll just sell it. Most of the time i would prolly only have one sled to meet friends that live in opposite directions of the mountain. Any decks I should stay away from?

I had a 1995 Chevy extended cab short box half ton with a 6 inch lift and over loads, never had a problem hauling a Thundercat with a 156 track and King cat with a 162. It was a Sky High aluminum deck with a telescoping ramp. I would do it again.

If you only have one thats not even a problem! You'd be fine with 2 but with one on my truck I can't even tell its loaded. I'd highly recommend getting a TOYUP deck for the price and quality you can't beat it. Great deck and easy to use. Give Will a call and at least talk to him great guy. Tell him Chris sent you.

Chevy must put better springs on their truck...i know my dodge would be sagged without bags. That is why I havent put more than one sled on mine yet. It has no prob with only one sled, but i have loaded it with rock before to about that weight and it was sagged bad. Ill have bags soon and start putting two up there.

My sierra sagged a little bit with two up there but I do have bags and a compressor installed so I was able to fill the bags up from my truck which is nice. I fill em up every time just to level it out and my truck handles great.

i know in the previous identical post to this someone brought up insurance issues with a truck being over its gvw that they dont have to cover anything should a wreck occur. i am a basic member so i did not see how that played out. Can anyone comment on this? i have a sierra 2500 so i'm not worried about being past my gvw with a sled deck and two sleds but i am curious about all these overloaded half tons and insurance issues.

thats a good lookin set up! do you have any pics from the direct side view?

There's a side view picture of mine on ksl, but it's on a short bed 3/4 ton Chevy. It's for sale. Picked it up the same day as Chris in Twin Falls. I got there before you.

Why are you selling it? I remember seeing your truck with the deck.

I'll post some pics with the side view

Just not my thing. I don't go enough to keep them on there, and I don't like unloading and loading all the time. I just sold my 4 place enclosed because I've sold all but one sled. Told myself I'd try a deck and if it wasn't for me I'd sell it. I won't sell it for less than I paid. I figure I'm already loosing the money and time to get it here.
