09 xtx superchager vs. turbo

I just switched from the old 2 chokers to 4 strokers and was interested in who might have some experience with the newer quick spooling turbos. I live at sea level and don't want a bunch of turbo lag and am leaning towards the supercharger.

I rode a stage one rtx last year at 11lbs if boost at low elevation. LOTS of pull if you are not going to be at high altitude and are looking for more of an all around sled the XTX with a SC should fit that bill. I do more mountain riding but that combination was something I considered. The new front geometry is a huge improvement. I wish it had a little more track but the package worked very well.

I went the M8 since most of my riding is deep snow/mountain riding and the extra track and light weight were important to me.

yea

Love mine!! Nytro S.C.!! You hit the hammer and BANG you are gone! I had a old rx1 with a rear mount tourbo lag was very very bad.... They have come a long way...

LOL, lag, thats what my bud thought would happen with my Powderlites turbo against his supered.......he experianced mine coming out ahead skis up two feet and pullin ahead on him like a freight train.

the 2 most responsive turbo kits on the market are impulse and alpine, hands down. I've rode all kits and its easy to tell when you are in the seat of one then hop on the next. That drag race tape is a little off, I have rode well setup mpi's and they respond excellent also.

Good luck with whatever you go with!

i run a impulse nytro and ride with just about every other turbo set up that you see in canada ( no boondocker or custom ones ) and lots of superchrgers as well . the rear mounts do have a tad of lag , nothing thats too bad though . the supers are really fun in the trees and on and off throttle riding condtions . front mounts take the low end of a super and srceam up top as well :D. MPI is the only one building superchargers and there is around 6 turbo companies that says alot .

We work directly with yamaha on our kits. Yamaha contacted us to have our kit in there acc. catalog for 2010. Just something to think about. You don't see any turbo kits in yamaha's acc. catalog.

If that's true, then hats off to MPI for their transformation. Does that mean a dealer installed S/C would be available, with warranty?

I ride a stage II S/C Nytro @ 12psi. Have ridden a couple of different turbos (Powderlites, Boondocker, MCX)...lag on the turbo's is not a deterant, but for on/off on/off riding in tight spots, its tough to beat the instant on of a S/C.

Mid and Top end of the turbos is unequalled.

Another consideration is the simplicity of the S/C.

Not all the details are worked out yet. Supercharger vs turbo there is up's and downs for both it all comes down to what kind of ridding you are doing and what type of power you are looking for. Turbo wise though imo paul@impulse would be my choice if i were going to go with a turbo

LOL, if in Canada ( but also anywhere else), I would recomend Powderlites ( Dave) rear mount turbo with the added weight and heat of the turbo to the back instead of adding more to the front end.
As far as the super.........it is a decent kit with the right idea. I think with the use of the rapid bike and a blowoff valve with a better fresh air breather the kit would be spectacular.
I definitly like aspects of both. I still like my turbo after driving both.

I would say turbo Powderlites for more boost and HP if you are not into crazy HP NW turbo works builds a great kit as well.

They are in Belgrade MT as well as I see your user name says Bozeman.

It is all in the set up. We have built a bunch of superchargers and a bunch of turbos and they all have there pluses and minuses. This is an ongoing debate and will never be settled because it seems "Whatever I have is the best" is the best rule of tumb.

I will tell you I have had my eyes opened to the rear mount over the last few months. Cam timing, and ignition timing have everything to do with lag, not so much as the placement of the turbo. Our Powderlites kits are SNAPPY with a capital nasty! I have a lot of MPI kits out there as well. I will have a post on this tomorrow. We have a good fix for them and they are rockin'.

Turbo or Supercharger Nytro

Well we have been playing with MPI Superchargers and adding Rapid Bike 3 and blowoff valve and head spacer, Cam timing etc.
Ask Darren at E & S motorcyles in Edmonton how Powder lites makes a Supercharger run.
Mapped a Stage 3 for Darren and Mapped a Stage 2 for Big Mike from Sask.
I was told that gas mileage and HP were way more then before we worked on them.
As for our Rear Mount turbo the guys that have really rode them know how snappy they are and if you want I can snap up throttle response in a few seconds with the lap top.
Which kit to buy?? Well of course it should be a complete kit that comes with everything and even has cam timming jig. ( jig has been used on every other kit out there by now )
Bring me any boosted sled and I can make it run better then when it came in. We take pride in our work at Powder Lites.
Setup is key right from the start on any sled.
