09 xp recoil won't rewind

Went out today with my 09 summit xp, it has 150 miles on it know and the first time we stopped went to restart it and recoil came out and is stuck there and was stuck there all day. Woundering if anyone else had this issue and how you resolved it. Should have bought electric start.

Real common problem, lots of info on dootalk.com if you search over there. Something to do with the plastic pawl melting from too tight clearance. Warranty will just replace the crappy part with another crappy part so if you want to fix it properly apparently the RT1000 piece is better but you have to pay out of pocket to upgrade it.

Recoil

After market can helps or if you dont wantto go that route remove the stock can and cover the recoil face with reflective heat tape.....so ive heard..

I can't believe Doo is STILL having a problem with recoils, it seems every model year there are people *****ing about their recoil falling apart, melting, or breaking. How hard would it be for Doo to fix these once and for all?

Been through 2 on my 08 XP. Buy a whole new recoil and move on.... Maybe buy an extra one and leave it at the truck, b/c it's going to break again.

I was riding with a buddy with an 09 and his did the same thing. all we had to do is tap on the side of the recoil cover, and it retracted, hasnt stuck again yet.....but sounds like it will...

Took it in today and they said this is the third 09 summit snowmobile that needed replacing already. Going to try the heat tape and hopefully it works. Some say a aftermarket can made it worse and some says it makes it better, who knows.

Buy a model with e-start. Never pull a rope again. Yamaha did it.

I helped a guy start his new SkiDut XP just yesterday on Mt. Baker, WA.... His recoil would retract but didnt pull anything other than the recoil spring

his started on first pull with the clutch tool. My older Rev and ZX would take forever doing it that way.

When mine went out it took my stator and pickups. Replace them!
