09 tunnel update and stretch to 162 questions

Hey guys, Not sure if you seen this thread http://www.snowestonline.com/forum/showthread.php?t=333970 but this is what my delima is and how I am going to try and fix it.

One thing I am changing is modding the tunnel on my 08 M8 153 to the new style 09 + and stretching it to a 162.

My question is...I need a new rear tunnel piece to account for the new track length and was wondering if I bought the 09 162 rear tunnel section will it just rivet right on to my 08 chassis? If yes, that new rear tunnel piece will already be the 09+ style and do I then just install the 09 162 rear bumper along with new rear gussets and foot edge rails? I plan on buying, the 09 rear 162 section, 09 foot board edges and 09 rear gussets, 09 162 bumper, shorty rear flap and 09 cooler... Will this work? Will it be strong enough.

Will this kinda kill 2 birds with one stone---09 162 New rear tunnel piece---mods tunnel to 09 style and allows me to install the 162?

Let me know as I want to order this asap.

Cheers

Sounds right, except you'll need some hoses to connect the heat exchangers to the rear cooler. You won't be able to use the factory ones unless you're changing out the tunnel coolers too, as they are for a 153.

Hey thx for the reply.. That sounds good. One more question: Looking at the parts catalogue, the 09 162 rear tunnel peice has a huge hole in it. What are people doing to cover this or does the cooler cover it?

Remember where the cooler tubes run to is different on older sleds. The m7 had the cooler inlets furter forward then the 09. I believe the 07-08 would also (rear cooler is different on the m7).
You probably won't want to but the factory hoses for the 09. Go to napa and get some longer hoses with a hard 90.

Yes the cooler mounts under that hole, it keeps the tunnel from trapping heat

I was thinking if ordering a shorty snow flap. Do I need to order at Cat tail light or can I use my SLP LED light that I have?

Or do I need to have the LONG flap

how much are all your parts? A quick parts price look up here in canadian land gets me this: $80 for a mud flap that you're gonna cut in half. another $80 for a light that's gonna break off, the back of the tunnel is $120. $20 for the adaptor thing. and $75 for the bumper that's riveted on.

You can get a VanAmburg back half for under $400. Comes with a built in bumper.

I should hear on a price today sometime on the parts. I should pay no where near what you are saying. I am from BC as well and I get all my parts from the states. Much cheaper.

The snow flap is actually a short one--different part number from the parts catalogue...No cutting needed

As for the light, I already have a LED from SLP that I want to use.. Its small so breaking it shouldn't be an issue.

I have looked at the VE rear section but still leaning toward the 09 stock style.

Cheers

Call Michelle @ Oregon Trail Sports. I got all my 09 tunnel parts from her. It was half the cost of Canadian dealers. She knew the right snowflap to send as well.

"The snow flap is actually a short one--different part number from the parts catalogue...No cutting needed"

Is the shorty snow flap you are referring to an Arctic Cat part or aftermarket? Do you know which A/C model it is used on or part number?

I just did the tunnel update to my sled this summer. I put airframes on so I never used the gussets. But its super easy. The 09 rear half just rivets right on. I got the 90 degree hoses from napa. They are rad bypass hoses. I also have the smaller SLP light on mine. Make sure you wire it in correctly or it will short out and blow the 15a fuse for your gauge, tail light, and power valves. Also when you put the bumper one, make sure to put it far enough forward so that a couple rivets go through the front half of the tunnel as well. That will give it a lot more strength.

The Van Amburg rear bumper is the way to go. The thing is way more solid than the stock setup. My sled was already a 163 however. The only parts I purchased were the bumper and the edge braces. You do not have to buy new runningboard edges. The stock ones will work. The 163 tunnel extension rivets right on. The stock curved cooler works just fine and I cut the stock flap to fit. The bill was under $200. I have been using this setup for 3 years.

The pro-climb tail light housing rivets perfectly on the VE bumper for another light option. If you but one remember to order a harness too! There are no wire leads off the back of the pro-climb light.

I just did the Van Amburg on my 07 and changed the light to an led. I would reccommend! Very good look, and functions, I didn't realize till after I did it.
