Hey guys does anyone know if AC is doing anything about the 09 M's fraying track on the sides?? Mine is fraying and i know of alot other people with the same problem is AC doing anything about it???

common issue for something on it's side and getting abraided by sharp objects upon each revolution. if it bugs you, take a butane, or propare torch, and carefuly singe the edges a time or two a season. all tracks do this from side hilling, not just the PC track. ski

Track

Took mine to my dealer they siad it is normal wear and tear. I showed them the plastic strips inside the tunnel, It only allows about 1/4" clearance on ether side of of track. These strips are rubbing against the track causing it to fray. I was told no warrenty. I was thinking of removing these strips to free up some clearance for the track.

Yes that is what i think is causing it to fray to, i am taking my sled in to my dealer tomorrow for other things and i will try to get the fraying warrented i will let you know what they say. Thanks

Ya my 08 does the same started when i put the 09 2 wheel kit, i am still running the challenger i just burn the fraying off.

Mine did too. Make sure you put out the flame after you melt the fraying. Do a search on the forums... you'll find pictures of what could happen if you don't make sure it's stopped burning!

And I really doubt they are going to warranty it. It's just a bit of fuzz.

The plastic piece inside the tunnel is to keep the track from hitting rivets that would cause more damage.

Rivets

If you look up in the tunnel you will see the rivets that cat used, they are a little long and have excess metal sticking out, I used a die grinder and ground of the excess. Ground off enough until you could see the nail head in the rivet. I also ground the rivets in the plastic guides on the side of the tunnel,
With careful alignment of the track my rubbing and freying has stopped. Only if i side hill on certain occasions will i see any new freys. I dont worry about it any more, track works fine. just my experience.

Becareful when you burn the frayin off, tried to do that with my 09 and a cord caught fire without me knowing and ended up burning a hole in my track.

Those plastic deflectors are there to coverup exposed rivets in the tunnel. The rivets are from the running board returns if I am not mistaken. Those rivets will do more of a number on the track than the plastic deflector.

No offense to anyone on here by any means. But I never understand why alot of people think that alot of normal wear and tear items should be covered under warranty. Wheter it be gloves, tracks, etc... I guess I just dont understand. Trust me I see it everyday at the shop I work at. Maybe it is the education of the customers when they actually buy the product I dont know. Just a thought.

Track

That fraying has caused several customers some concerns if they bug you hit them with a lighter but like stated make sure all you burn off is the string not the whole sled.....:)

Is this going to hurt the track? No
Does it bother most customers yes and do they worry about the track coming un threaded I guess. So burn the treads off but Cat is not going to give you a new track.

When I checked inside the tunnel on my M7 it had alot more room for the track and no fraying like you get with the M8. Its to bad a person could put spacers or washers where the suspension bolts to the tunnel in the rear of sled. To gain some clearance. In the meantime I will use a lighter to burn frays on track.

powerclaw fraying

the track has alot of side to side movement with the 2 wheels instead of 4 on the rear axle, I burned the frays on the 09 LE M8 I rode last year and they came back the next ride. Just looks funny, that track is tough it's not going to come apart. And cat isn't going to give you anything these days.
