09 m8 low idle when hot

my 2009 m8 HCR will always run and start fine with no problems at all at the trailhead and usually halfway through the day but sometime when its warm and i shut it off to take a break i start it to go again and it idles fine then when i go to push the throttle it just looses rpm and dies i have to feather it until it gets enough rpm to go, sometimes not even working at all. it seems to do it when it faces downhill but there is no cure that i have found to fix it and it seems like everyone i talk to has no idea either (even the local shops) all they tell me is that almost everyone with one of these sleds have the same problem, so im guessing nobody on here will know but its worth a shot.

your sled should idle about 1800-2000 rpm when cold

are you letting the sled idle down before turning it off?

When you hear it go low, kill it then restart. Takes 2-3 times starting and shutting off to hear the correct idle. If that doesn't work, I flip the throttle hard to full throttle super quick. It usually snaps out of the low idle after 2-3 full blips.

And if those methods don't work. I reach in and unplug the yellow plug that is the water temp sensor, start the sled and it revs up to normal idle the shut it off plug the yellow back in and it should go like normal. The yellow plug is located under the coolant bottle near the bottom of the steering post.

Weird quirk, can't explain it but that's how I get mine going.

I have been battling this issue all year and I too have an 09HCR. The difference this year has been a new engine with a new water temp sensor and what ACMtnCat says would make sense (sensor is the issue, it's the only new part in my electrical). I looked up the sensor on Cat parts and it appears the sensor is the same for all years of the 800. My buddies 2011 M8 does it a bit as well, but not to the level mine does now.
