09 M8 clutch set up 6-10,000 feet

New to Arctic Cat, I bought a 09 M8 153. Is there any advice on any changes should be make to the clutch set up? I will ride from 6000-10,000 feet and sled is all stock. I have read about a orange white spring. Does that pertain to a stock set up?

Should I gear it down?

Some other things I am thinking of doing is the wide bearing from BDX for the Diamond Drive.
Also I have read about the weak steering rod on the 09's. Are the 2010 steering rods thicker?

I would ride it a couple of times and see where your at as far as clutching goes. Stock, you probably have 73gram weights, if you spend most of your time at 10k, you might want to drop weight to say 68-70 grams. Probably not much help, but it all depends on you and what you want the sled to do.

IF it is new with no or little time on the clutches I would run the sled as is. Look for the wear marks on the weights as well as the springs. Adjust from there. See where the weights are shifting on the roller in the way your riding look for spring bind and wear on the springs. What might work for one may not work for you if you have springs binding even if it is the same combo.

My M8 needed 70 gram weights and a slp blue/yellow primary spring to run 7900rpm at 9K. Mine is an 09 with a 162. You can give it a try but I am betting you will need to drop weights to 70G to see the needed rpm if you ride at 9K.

What effect did the slp spring have specifically? I can't seem to get mine to 8000 (speedwerx recommendation with my pipe set-up) even though I'm running 68 gram weights. Seems like I've hit a point where lighter weights don't produce higher revs. 7800 is all she'll pull. Perhaps I should change the primary spring?

The SLP spring is about 140/310 the 310 seems to be a very good number for the diamond drive. Higher rate will keep the rpm's up and hold the shift back to keep your track speed up with the rpm's.

Keep an eye on spring bind in the primary spider cup. When new........ guys found that putting more and more weight at the spring would crush it in. I found that if you let off then hit the flipper again the weights would crush the spring and you would get more rpm's out of it and more track speed. Did this till I broke about five TI primary springs. Look at the out side of the primary spring for wear. This will tell you if you have spring bind.

I like to see 7900 on my 600 then pull to 8100. The bigger the bore the lower the RPM should be. Need to let the flame travel. This is why the two plugs on the big bores.

So whats the fix for the primary spring binding??
