Best mods for the M1000 is a lw can and other things that put it on a diet. That motor has tons of power. If you don't want a controller get a can. I use HPS which is the lighest, but I hear speedwerx makes a great one too. Vent it, a little clutch work, I found the 40/36 helix made a huge diff., I haven't gone into the gears yet but that's supposed to be another key to this sled. Search around for a while, there's alot to be done that makes these sleds hard to beat.
its not worth guessing if it will work with mods, if you have a egt guage then you can experiment, i would put a can on it, some vents etc and ride it . or go all the way and really wake her up. lol
The engine is awesome. To make it work, gear it down. Best thing for M10. 56/64's or in that ballpark. Made mine much better in the mountains. If you want a 90 mph sled, leave the gears. If you don't want to burn belts and have a decent mountain sled, gear it down. Yea, and get rid of the can.
I had an '07 M1000 and only did a can. I now have a '09 M1000 and did a BDX intake, SLP single , and a BD box - totally different sled / power. I bought a used BD box for like 225. Just depends on how much you want to wake it up and how tight your budget is. I just received my 56/64 gearset so I am anxious to see how that improves it. Have fun with it - you'll love the sled.
I've done the straightline y-pipe, hps can, & 4 bullseye vents in the airbox without the need for a efi box. The gearing seemed to help with the belt issue, can now run the cheaper m8 belt vs the spendy m1000 belt. Done this setup on all year m10's with good luck.
Keep your belt tight so the sled just moves as it idles and it'll prevent belts burning. Also vent your belt area to allow it to breathe. A little extra air to the intake and you should be good. It's a great sled as is.
