09 Dragon 155 Review and issues

I just finished puting on 240mi of mountain riding in the last week. The snow was about 4-5' deep with a base about 30" down and powder about 18" deep.

Trails- ( I know this sled is not a trail sled but you have to ride trails to get the alpine and meadows)
I found the sled to really want to lift the inside ski in the corners. So I tried removing the stabilizer bar but the shocks were too soft without increasing the preassure, so I put it back in. I left the ski width set the middle as it came from the factory. I did find if you ride the corners standing up I could put enough body influence to counter act the stabilizer bar. Otherwise both the front and rear suspensions were set good for the bumps. I also found out that the steering is heavy compared to other sleds I rode.

Powder- The sled worked good in the deep snow. It carved and sidehilled easily for me at 240lbs but required way more body input then my last sled an 07 summit800 151". It was a lot more work to ride. The suspension set up pretty good for this type of riding, but I would have liked to have more weight transfer to be able to cat-walk the small bumps easier.

Problem Issues- Front suspension sway bar and shock setting.
More weight transfer/less steering effort.
Electrical- Where do I start?
1)The engine sometimes would hit about 7100 rpm then die out, but if I kept it below 7100 then no issues. I could raise the rpms past 7100 by slowly pushing the throttle and not slapping it. This only lasted for about 10mi at 3500' in elev. ( about 22F that morning)
2)The engine shutdown on me 4 times later that day... as it was shutting down I noticed the battery light was flashing ( non elec start) so I lifted the belt and cover off the check the wiring for loose connections. I could not find any so I reassembled it. Then the sled ran perfect all day.
3)On the way out it was dark and my headlights were going dimmer and dimmer, so I shut off the sled and restarted it and the the lights were good again. Then when I revved it up the ligths would go dim again. Further down the trail the dash lights and head lights quit alltogether. So I stopped the sled and restarted and the lights would be good again. Further down the trail the lights went out so I just followed someone and then 5mi further all the lights came on again.

THe dealer has the sled again and said he had one more sled with the exact same issue...Polaris said they have no one else with this issue...figures. They are thinking faulty stators but who knows yet.

Summary:
Even with all of the problems( as long as the dealer can get them rectified) I liked the sled, otherwise I would have sold it back to him and bought something else. We rode with 4- M8's ( 1 with the SLP KIt...good for 14hp???), an 08 M1000 and an 09-xp 154. The xp rider was green so we couldn't compare, it climbed better then my sled when I tried it though. The m1000 beat me no problem but the m8's were not as good...even the one with an SLP Kit.(which should have been equal HP theoretically). I am heavier then the other riders so I think the Dragon worked as expected. If the dealer can't figure out what the issue is then I'll go and buy a M1000.

I'll give them one more chance.

Issues

Sorry about your issues. Is it a 700 or 800. I have a couple 800s and they run awesome. Check the spark plug wires.

Don't know where to start but there are issues.
The sled won't run at 7100, maybe keep up with a 600 but that's about it...so your clutching sucks. Get it to 8200 and above (Carl's Clutch kit). Maybe it was running more R's before your problem?

I had an 07 Summit also and the Dragon is in another league in the powder, far superior handling. You don't need much rider input with the Dragon so you must be fighting it or sled set-up sucks. It's the easiest sled to ride in powder snow but takes some seat time, most think it's tippy until they get used to the feel.
If you liked the teeter totter feel of the Doo then you may be disappointed with a Poo or Cat. You can drop the front limiter strap but I'd recommend giving it a few more rides. I found the Doo wanted to wheelie on hills unless you pulled the limiter strap all the way in...then the powder handling went to $hit.
The flashing signal on the Display was probably an error code. The number of blinks can be translated to 9 different error conditions. The dealer can get that info when he plugs into digital wrench.
Good luck, maybe the electrical will be something simple.

It's an 800 and the reason it won't go past 7100 is electrical....not clutching. I just gave the review now I need to fix the issues...starting with the limiter straps.

Also in the review I forgot to mention that the sled was clutched spot on but I think the gearing could go down 1 tooth for my size, thus dropping the clutch temps a little. I had no belt issues or black marks on the primary clutch. In my opinion the vents people are adding are not required, As I could still put my hands on the sheaves after riding around.

One day while riding in flood water on a small lake I had the drivers build up with ice and then this caused a ratcheting sound when coasting or going down hill. This was fixed by cutting out the ice with the saw in my shovel...otherwise I would have had to leave it. It appears Polaris placed the drivers and extrovert too close together causing the ice to build up. It might be worth packing some methol hydrate to melt the ice just in case the saw idea is too much of a pain.

Well I got my sled back from the dealer on x-mas eve. They replaced the stator and voltage regulator. I never rode it till 2 days ago as it's been very cold everyday. I put on 10mi at work with it...at 3000' and 8 deg F. It had the famous midrange bog except I had to feather the throttle to get by it. Well yesterday a bunch of us went out (3300' at 30 deg F) and went a mi and it felt like the bog except it just died. We tried pulling it over and found the mag side to be stuck....and some Al on the electrode. After waiting for a pull rope to come it freed itself, but would not start up again. Dealer said they would fix it no problem but only bring it in a couple of days. I'll see how long it will be down for but I might have to change brands. I'm getting fed up with this sled's reliability already and it only has 250mi on it. (BTW I made sure the water temp was up when we took off...122F)

How many guys had their engines fixed and still had trouble?or if Polaris' fix holds up?

On another note this is the first sled that I have run synthetic oil in and this is the first engine I've had trouble with...coincidence???

When they fix the engine (if I keep it) then I'll siphon the synthetic out and go back to the tried and true Castrol oil I've always run and had no trouble with.
