Im looking at buying a myself an 09 dragon. The sled has 1100 miles on it. its got pipe, intake, and venting done to it.
A. whats sled like this worth? im in canada, and its in good condition.

B.Whats the average milage for a top end rebuild?
2000miles? 2500 miles?

My gush, why are you guys all thinking a sled cannot run longer than that on its original top end lol???

All of my previous sled were yammies and they all made it past 14000miles on the same top end!

I know dragon have had problems but myself unless something tells me it has to be done Im not going to redo it.

What is the compression? Is it the same in both cylinder?

Not saying its not a good question for that sled tho. I don't really have an answer but Ive read of some dragon with lots of miles on this site.

you should be able to get at least 4-5000 out of a stock to motor before needing to rebuild. we do 1500-2500 running 12-16lbs of boost. that sled depending on track length around here would go for 5800-6500

I would think it should be worth around $7500 for an 09. At least thats what I would want to pay. Cdn prices do suck...

yeah i forgot about the price jump for products in canada. i picked up an 09 163 w/ only 1200 miles and warranty through 2013 a year ago next week for $7200. used sleds are selling cheap around here.

talk him down,

In my opinion any mod is not an investment is a expense. Especially with only a single pipe and vents. total you are talking about 1000$ worth of equipment (if bought new!im selling a single pipe set and air intake and pc 3 for less than that)

That should only help selling the sled faster not selling it at a better price. I'm also from Canada and own a 163 2009 dragon with 1500 KM so 900miles on it and if I were selling it I would hope for 8k.

now that the turbo will be in it not anymore lol but still.

I would say 8200-8300 would be a great deal.

Even $8500CDN is good for that sled with the extras. You'll be happy, I have the same set up. Get the clutching right and you will be smilin'.

Did the current owner buy it new? Has it been updated including top end? Does it have current flash? Comresssion isn't the only concern. I would pop out the exh.valves and look at the skirts for any sign of scuffing. You could also use a bore scope to look through the Y Pipe or even in the spark plug hole at the cylinder walls. I think almost all will show some scuffing which may not be fatal, but a good $$$ leverage point with the seller.

I would also deduct enough to have the crap shocks re-charged. Depending on your size you may also need the big boy springs that will cost too. Hope ya get a new ride. EW

I don't think people are saying you can't run more than X-Amount of miles but on certain sleds it is worth spending $200-$300 and getting new pistons/rings to put in as insurance. Much cheaper than losing something and doing crank or case damage.

With that said I don't think the pistons are weak. I wouldn't even consider it until 2000 or so miles.
