my motor on my 09 d8 went, the dealer says that the need to replace everything but one piston. They want $3000. Does anybody have any suggestions that could save me a little money?

any advice would help.

Everything but ONE piston? That seems very odd.

I'd get your engine back, send it to Carl's, SLP, or similar, and see what options they can give you.

Check around and you'll find someone that can set you up with a likely a better engine, and at a price you'll be more comfortable with.

Worth a shot.

Maybe you could try pms ,s kit called the fix they seem to have a huge amount of faith that it will fix all your problems

going to be a common sight in the next few years, this dosnt sound so bad when you have warranty but now that its up its comeing out of your pocket feel bad for ya bud its one thing when its owner inflicted

If I were in your situation and had to spend money I would look at having an actual specialty engine shop work on it, maybe someone like Indy Specialties down by the twin cities. Or if you get an engine warranty go with the dealer and hope you don't have other problems.

I had my 08 dragon go out in 2009 and it was covered under warranty. My dealer gave me the breakdown of what was wrong and it was a 2 page list. I asked them what it would of cost me with no warranty and it was 4500.00. So, I guess it could always be worse. What was the cause? Mine was piston slap which seems to be a common theme.

Are their holes in the Case or is the Crankshaft visably broken?

If not... I agree with mfarmboy95...Send it into an actual crank and engine rebuilder. That does all "in house".. I like Indy Specialties as they give you great value for your money.

Cylinders can be repaired and replated for much less money..Cranks can be rebuilt and trued rather than replaced... Replated/repaired cylinders and a rebuilt crank are much better than anything used.

A complete short block, rebuilt to better than factory specs will be less than you are talking about.

Cases are not that much... and can even be repaired in some instances.

Many dealers are not equipped for this work or it does not fit in with the scale of things in the shop.

At that point... Get yourself a Power Commander from DTR or SLP and run the correct map and clutching for your location. Send in the clutch and have it balanced/blueprinted as well.

Call CMX and see if they have any crate 800's left, they were selling them really right.

Outside of warranty.......It's YOUR choice, not the dealers.

So definitly get some more opinions! And they shouldnt have a problem with that.

You'll be happier in the long run if you find the right place to do your engine.

Sometimes a used motor is not what it appears... you could be buying another problem...

Do you know the person you are buying it from??

1800 for a used one or probably 2200 for a rebuilt one that is better than factory.

i have the same problem with my 09 800 and im going to fix and and sell it that would be your best bet to save you money so you dont have to put one in every year

If you have a dealer like ours buy the parts yourself and have a local 3rd grader put it together and you'll be better off ! outside of carls and a few others I,d stay away from dealerships for major engine work.send it to one of the good shops or do it yourself. if you want it done right .

I lost my 2008 D8 motor the day the warranty ended on 12/28. A piston skirt broke and was injested, and the rod hit the case and put a hole in it and broke it by the intake on one side. the engine was still running abut idled high. I took it to the dealer for the idle issue and found I needed a new engine. The only salvagable part was 1 piston. Your dealer should still try to get atleast a partial warranty claim... I snow checked an 2011 assault I hope it lasts longer than the 2000 miles on my D8.
