I had a ding from spring riding (threw up a rock riding across a bunch of gravel road, either me or my riding buddy, not sure), took it in to Fabcraft, they put it in a bucket of water and compressed and uncompressed the shock using a hydraulic press and looking for bubbles. No bubbles. So they dressed the ding up a bit with a fine file and paper so it won't worry on the seal much, tested it under water again using the press, and it was still good. Pumped up the nitrogen to "better-than-new" specs and I am good to go. Also had them pump up the other side and put new updated pistons in both back shocks (like the newer dragons).
Sled did not come with those little foam pieces. Made my own out of pipe insulation. Better than nothing! (Why didn't Polaris just put boots on them...)
So it might be OK but you should check it out like Fabcraft did for me, like you said it would be bad to ruin a trip over a $50 - $100 part (plus labor)... maybe see if someone would "loan" you a spare shock for the trip...
