This was posted on another forum and I though It should be shared for those that have 09 XP's First paragraph is not my wording, posted by someone in revy.
Had a new XP in the shop today with a seizing sliding half. First day out the clutch would shift up and seize solid with the belt half way up the sheave. Customer said if he let it cool down he would hear a bang and the clutch would open up. We had a hard time getting the half off and never could get it back on , this bushing was way out of spec right from the get go. How could have BRP let this get by them and is any one else seen this????
You would think after the last 2 years of clutch problems they should be paying closer attention.

Now I went out the shop and checked mine as well (I have video of this happening as well) Had it on the stand and after the engine warmed up I took the engine up to shift rpm and when the engine was going back down to Idle the clutch didn't appear to be opening back up so I hit the brake and the engine stalled, about 1 min later the primary opened back with a bang.
not even a mile on the sled and it had to go in for warrenty work already.

If BRP gave two hoots about their primary clutch selection they would have dropped the TRA a long time ago and started over.

Truth is the TRA is cheap to make and needs lots of parts all the time so it is a money maker for BRP. A set of rollers cost $198.00 and none of the other parts are cheap. If you are really lucky you can even get the TRA to run occasionally. BRP has a winner in the TRA because it is your fault if you can't get the sled to go. You just have to keep buying stuff and burning fuel to find a spot where the TRA will run for a few minites.

I'm jealous. I wish I had a money making angle like what that TRA is for BRP. Take the TRA off and put it in the "back-up" pile.

What other primary's work?

I'm running the Polar primary and it really works, but we have been having durabilty problems. I have the latest a greatest on the sled now, just waiting for snow.

It's not a question of what works, it is why BRP has shown no interest in providing the mountain riders with a good primary. I don't know why BRP wasted all that time on the 08 secondary, when the 07 roller secondary is just as good. BRP must know they have a drive problem and were hoping a new secondary would help the TRA, but it didn't.

Yamaha can stuff 300 hp into their stock clutches and have them run trouble free for thousands of miles, so it can be done. BRP loves to print lots of pictures of the guys out west beating up some mountain, because sexy sells. Everybody wants to doo what we doo, problem is BRP really does not have a mountain clutch, no matter how much they try.

The problem with the primary clutch was the shipping oil, causing the clutch to stick, there could of been road dust, belt dust or something causing the problem to occur, the dealer cleaned the clutches and the primary works fine now I tried it out already, no binding or sticking, good to go!!

if the tra sucks so much why have i had no problems what so ever with the last 3 sleds i have had??? all i have done is dj clutch kit and keep them clean. I have read ALOT of your posts on the polar primary because i WAS thinking of using one but after seeing all of the problems you have had with them in the last 2 years i think the tra holds up better and performs just fine with a decent clutch kit.

did you just say what i think you said???

I just dropped off my sled at the dealer this morning for that same thing
will let you know what i find out

i have oil under my clutch too. is that on all of them. what did they oil
It's in all of them, it's a anti corrosive oil BRP puts on the clutches to protect the surfaces during transport. i'm surprised after last year's issue with the arms seizing in the clutch caused by the oil, that it didn't get removed this year during the PDI.
