09 700 RMK 155 - RPM Question

Just got a new, 0 mile, 09 700 RMK 155 last month. I have put a little over 100 miles on it now and have started to open her up a little. Saturday I was riding around home, 1,100 feet, and saw the sled consistently running at 8,400 rpm with a max of 8,600 rpm. Runs great, but these R's feel too high to me. Motor, clutching, and gearing wise the sled is completely stock with the exception of an MBRP can. I am running polaris 10-66 weights as called for in the owners manual. Are others seeing these rpm's? Any suggestions on if I should make a change to bring these down and if so, what change. Thanks ahead of time for your help!

Your dealer should have set it up for your riding altitude. The proper rpms should be 8200. My 600 rips really well and will occasionally hit as high as yours on the flats, but it pulls the right rpms when climbing. You don't want to go by the max rpm readout only.

The dealer left it set up as it came from the factory - 10-60's in it for 6,000 - 8,000 feet. I checked the owners manual which called for 10-66's at 0 - 2,000 feet, ordered, and installed them. I was ditch banging all day (20 feet is a hill around here) so have to idea what it pulls on a climb yet. Not heading west until February.

If you aren't doing a bunch of deep pow boondocking or climbing, you should really add 2 to 4 grams. For me, overreving a touch on the trail, makes for great rpms in the deep stuff.

skibreeze - That is what I was debating. I think I will get a set of 10-68's to try around here. I already have 10-56's, 10-58's (this is what the owner's manual calls for for the areas out west we ride), and 10-60's lined up for our trip out west. Might as well have a selection for around home too.

Pownar - Nope, the exact opposite. I am 6'2", 240 without gear. The cold ones keep getting in the way of my workout program.

I agree...8200 is the max for the D7.

My 09 700 RMK runs 8000RPMs max at 2000ft with 10-66 weights. Seems odd yours is hitting that high of RPMs,that motor makes peak HP and torque at 7900-8000RPMs as seen in the dyno below.

Thanks for the info Sledmax, I am thinking I will try to run some 10-68's to bring the rpms down. We have a big storm coming in the next couple of days, 10-14", so I will see what it pulls in that stuff. Thanks for your help.

Just curious what others on here are hitting for RPMs at 0-3000ft?

I ride 0-4000 with my 07d7. I run 64's with ported cylinders and a single pipe. It revs 8200-8400 and likes it. I was using the old button clutch, 19-42 gearing, 163x2.5 camoX. I did notice that I couldn't use the heavier weights with the button clutch, I could have easily used 66's with the Team.
