09', 10' and 11' Assault Perspectives

Been out about 120 miles around here in WI. No issues so far. Very happy with this sled. I've owned both 09' and 10' Assault. The 11' Assault is the best! Very good acceleration, the mid range is incredibly strong, gets off quicker. It's screaming for real mountain riding in 11 days.

nice sled, i'm jealous of your snow. i'd like to get mine broke in before i head west for the first time.

Sold my 09 Assault Tuesday night, went to the dealer on Wednesday and bought on 11 Assault, then took a good portion of today off to break it in.

I only put about 40 miles on and it felt pretty good. I felt like I had my shock settings pretty dialed in on the 09 after 2500 miles, but not so much today. First it was to soft, then to hard, but today was really about just breaking it in on a nice clear sunny day as the BIG storm is going to hit norcal and oregon this weekend.

The biggest thing in 40 miles I noticed is the extra track length. With the 09 on a moderately steep side hill the rear end would washout at times. The 155 was much more controlable on a good side hill with minimal washout. It's only about 5.5" longer actually on the snow, but makes a huge difference. Same thing with leaning it over and doing a downhill to up hill turn or a donut, the rear was not washing out.

The powder is coming!

thats not so much track length as it is chassis and skid..I have both a 08 163 dragon with a 2.5 extreme and a 11 pro 163...pro is soooo much more hooked up even with the 5.1 track..really thinking about putting a new extreme on it just to see how good it can really be...

Have you thought about trimming down the track? I did that on my 2008 155 (plus used screws, Fbomb mod-thanks) and made a big difference. I'm thinking just a trim on my 2011 163 would help and save $$. Don't get me wrong, it's damn good now but I think I'd gain more cutting the nubs.

I have been thinking about it..I do have a perfect 2.86 pitch 163 extreme sitting here though..so it wasnt hard to think about...humm..that would work really good under here....hummm.....it sure did on the dragon....

UCH UCH UCH you guys!

Hmmm what kind of dummy would cut up a perfectly good track ? I'm happy to report that I magically got another new sled that somehow works better then everyone else's. weird (that is a high level of saracsm)

tiny sample experiment:

3.4 hour old BONE STOCK PRO 8300 at 7000ft 38* 100% hum tearing along in uncut 2ft heavy snow which actually netted out almost the same as on the packed trail. I didn't hold it to the bar long enough on the trail because I've had a belt walk out of a clutch that wasn't pulling down enough and it was FAIRLY CATASTROPHIC to the side of the sled when it went BOOM. (which tells us MORE WEIGHT and STEEPER HELIX PLEASE ifn' youant to get there sooner). The other PRO sled, with me on it, was getting 8100 in the exact same spot and I got 8200 then fade back slightly on the trail.

So my question would be: Is anyone on a stock 155 or 163 seeing 8300 in any snow conditions at that alt and air index on factory Polaris installed clutching?

My Pro has hit 8300 a few times on the trail, haven't really check in the pow? I'll record some data tomorrow in the steep and deep!

You guys are kinda hijacking this thread. We are all Polaris lovers here, but this was started about the different year Assault's. We all know they have a different track.

Those BetterBoards are worth 200 rpm, right?...

8300 quite often, in west coast cement, call it 4000-6000ft...temp a solid 125-130...and I'm 245lbs

I dont know how everyone wants the display angle modification btw...I read mine fine...mid climb, vertical...boondocking...look down, there's the temp, there's the RPM

The main issue, and this does pertain to this thread - as I have ridden the '10 Assault - is the ski lift on this '11 sled...It is truly terrible. I cannot believe more people arent commenting.

I have tried taking almost all spring tension off my front (rear skid) shock, and loading up the rear shock...nothing is working. I can certinaly ride, but this sled is making me look as if I cannot. The E-tec with a brutal rider is killing me in the steep.

I have no choice but to go aftermarket...probably Mountain Tamer...but I am seriously getting worn-out leaning over the hood as I hanf on for dear life...then an uncontrolled 180 at teh top of the climb...i should re-tag my thread on this issue as I need some input from people that know what they are talking about in this regard...
