08' XP twisted crank

Only have 549 miles on my 08' XP 154 and it twisted the crank. Sold my 05' Summit 1000 because it blew up twice. Either situation was rider error. This loyal ski doo owner is thinking about switching to Polaris because ski doo isn't getting it right. Including the 20 some updates (recalls) that the XP had and all the belts eventhough they were warrantied. Just wondering if anyone else has had crank problems with their XP?

That sucks! Hope you got the second year warranty but you better switch because I'm sure no one lost a crank on a new polaris

I too had an 08 xp 146" and had nothing but problems. I sold it bought an assault and blew my crank in 18 miles. Polaris's sleds have the worst "fit n finish" of any manufacture out there ( can't keep snow out of the intake). I now have a sled that makes a whistle noise :). good luck, but polaris isn't the answer. Your Xp will beat the snot out of it any day of the week, as long as the cranks in tack

Friends 08 Polaris 700 has been in the shop for a month as the clutch flew off with crank end inside. When tested both cylinders are also down to 90 psi. He rides hard and the only black eye for Polaris is the month in the shop and the threat of not doing the warranty just because he had vents installed??

Anyway bottom line is all brands have some cranks go.

Twisted? can you explain more? Don't you mean out of phase, not 180* apart?

according to my mechanic the pto side bearing was fine but another bearing froze up and stuck "twisting" the crank. I imagine that just meant it came apart. My ski doo shop is in a neighboring town so I couldn't be there when he took it apart. He said the case is still in great shape but pistons were scored a bit. So he is going to replace the pistons, crank and gaskets. I rather they just throw a brand new short block in but it is still under warranty and I don't think ski doo would approve.

That sucks!

Mostly it sucks because of the lost time to ride. I don't know if switching is the answer. I think they all have their problems. So far my 08 XP is pretty good (fingers crossed) and tougher than I thought it would be. I kind of got freaked out by reading all of the forums about twisted nuns and whatever. I hit a rock and tweaked the A-arms but I feel like it held up okay. My friend hit a rock on his dragon 700 (similar to the rock I hit) and his was tweaked as bad or worse than mine.

My friend spun the crank on his Arctic Cat last year just like yours. Unfortunately it happens sometimes.

I say keep the XP till the warranty is about up and then trade up to a current sled again so you have a warranty. Any more they are all pretty good machines. I've ridden all 4 current brands of mtn sleds and they all work well. I think sometimes we forget how temperamental high performance machines can be at WOT.
