08 RMK 700 155 how bad is it going to be?

Hey all, I’ve gotten back into mountain riding after being out a few years. Didn’t want to spend much $ so bought an 08 RMK 700 155. Wondering how bad it’s going to be riding out west with my buddies if I’m going to be able to keep up? I think the next oldest sled to mine is 19’ AC alpha 151 then everyone else has newer turbos. 155-165. I would say I’m an above average rider for only being out west less than 10 trips in my life time and my last sled I had was an 15’ M8 151 that ended up getting totaled.

Also had the sled for a short rip around the farm in MN this year not having much snow. Have the 58 g weights in set for 10-12k feet I believe. Only went up to 8,100 rpms in MN in a 50 yd stretch should I be worried for out west? With those weights shouldn’t I be way over reaving at 1,000 ft? I did clean the EV, change gear oil is the only thing I’ve done since buying the sled. Thanks for your responses!

That's not a terrible sled for mountain riding. I'd go as much by how aggressive the guys you're riding as how much newer their sleds are. If they're good and want to get after it, then you are going to struggle to keep up, to be honest. Even a really good rider would be challenged to keep up with newer sleds on an iQ RMK - more weight, less power, and less track than the newer stuff. But I wouldn't worry about it if they're just average mountain riders. You will have to work harder than them though; probably not a problem for someone who's fit, but could be for the more out-of-shape.

As for the sled, make sure you check over the clutches. Maybe you have a broken or weak spring? My experience with my Pro 800 was that banging around fields where I live (4500'; it was clutched for 10k) it would hit the rev limiter pretty easy. It kind of worried me because that was the first time I rode it, and when you put the flipper to the bar it'd surge for a moment, then felt like a massive bog. I suspected rev limiting; sure enough, that's how people described it, and it didn't occur at elevation. I can't say for sure you've got a problem, but you definitely want to give it a good once-over anyway. It could be you've got a problem, and if it won't pull at elevation you'll really struggle. Nothing worse than hauling your sled a thousand miles and having it not work for you.

you'll be fine. you'll have to work harder but that sled is capable. But with the group having new turbos be expected to be shown up in places even if they can't ride. lol

now for the rpm issuse. check your belt alignment, VES bellows for any pin hole leaks, and check the condition/freshen/clean up your clutches. I would think that 58's would be hitting at least 8300 rpm. since 56 to 58 i would say is 10k+ clutching.
