08' Renegade 800 siezed???

Hi there,

My dad's mag side cylinder siezed on his ski-doo.

Sled info:
-08' Renagade 800
-All recalls done
-Stock
-Uses Amsoil Interseptor oil
-Uses fuel line anitfreeze

History:
-Bought it last year from here in Red Deer at Turple Bros.
-Rides around the lake and fields by his house.
-Has gone the mountains twice (once this month).
-Took it in for the drive shaft recall this week.

He was riding across the lake yesterday when it just up and quit with no warning. What was wierd is that the gauges quit while the engine was still coasting. We took a look at it and checked for heat, clutches & belt, track, oil level, fuel level. Everything was OK. One pull and it was up and running. So thought it had to be electrical. Rode for a bit longer and did it again. This time it siezed. Had to tow it back to the house. Checked the plugs and the pto side was perfect and the mag was white.

Has this happened to anyone else? The thing is, it ran perfect till he got it back from the dealer the other day. Any ideas or info would be great. Thanks.

Alex

How long were you riding it?

same thing happened to me a couple years ago on a '05 summit 600 144.
dealer said it "cold seized"
was also running amsoil interceptor syn. ended up blowin it up again the next season.... changed to skidoo mineral oil and have had no problems the last two seasons..cross my fingers

It was 1/2 hour or so into our ride. Warmed the sleds up for a good 10 min while getting changed. What exactly is a "cold seize"? I've heard it mentioned a few times.

ice in the jet. or some other reason it was leaned out.

We thought of ice but it seemed unlikely. He has been using gas line anti-freeze for quite a while now.
Definately the mag cylinder went lean for some reason by looking at the plug.
Doubt they have an inline fuel filter, my M8 doesn't. Going to put one on know that I think of it.
I just thought it was wierd that the electrical quit when the engine was still rotating the first time it quit. But maybe there is two problems here.

the mag side piston went lean on my 03 800. couldn't figure out why. it burnt down at about 2800 miles

If the motor is not turning there in no power to the guages.

Thats the thing, the engine was still turning.(coasting down w/no ingition) So in theory, the gauges should have still worked. He notice them quit at the same time the engine died and he tried giving throttle and could hear it was still turning. Thats why we figured it was electrial the first time. It started up with one pull. It had to have been 10 minutes later and did it again but locked up.

Get a leek down test done before you start tearing it down, this way you know that it didn't lean down from a bad crank seal or some other air leek.

Hopefully there is some sort of leak. Took it in to the dealer since his warranty ends tomorrow. I'm sure if it is a cloged jet or somthing they will walk away from doing it under warranty. But I guess we'll see.

Let us know what the verdict is!

I've got an 07 Rev 800 with 300 miles.... and the motor locked up twice while i was riding 3 days ago, I could only start/unlock it by trying to pull the pull start while pushing the electric start and it ran terrible past 7000rpm. I pulled the head off and the right cylinder was pooched.. it was scored, caked white along with scoring in the barrel. Left side if fine. I have no idea why it leaned out... I'll research more. Could old Gas have something to do with it? Piston ring twisted? Clogged Jet? Hope it works out for you

I'll let you all know when he hears back from the dealer. They said they could look at it in the beginning of the week.

Alexhack...How many miles were on the XP?

I think hes got about 300 miles or so on it.

So heres the story, one of the center the crank bearings piled up due to "unknown reasons". Hmmm:rolleyes: I'm thinking they F'd up when they were doing the drive shaft recall and other updates a week or so ago. But they are fixing it on warranty. I would think if it was just a cloged jet or oil nozzel to make it lean out they would have walked away from it. They must have pinched an oil line or something.
