08 M8 starts and runs for a second only. Help!

I'm chasing a gremlin in my M8. Usually it fires on the first or second pull. Right now it will start for a second, then shut down. There isn't time to catch a CPU code. The tach needle also stays pinned after it does this the first time, until it decides to start. I've checked all grounds, looked for pinched wires, jumped up and down, all to no avail. Anyone seen this problem before?

Old or bad fuel? I siphoned some gas from a different sled into my M8 for a ride and it did the same thing, sometimes intermittantly. I would look in the tank with a flashlight and check for obvious **** floating in there. If so, drain the tank, then wipe it out well with a rag and hit the pump for some fresh gas.

yep, mine did the same thing i thought i got all last years fuel out and went to rill the tank before last saturdays ride and noticed about a gallon in their still, got to the trail head and she would not run, it was like it was on one cylinder so i slowly kept after it up the trail a bit and all of a sudden, bingo back in business, had to run the crud through it, seemed fine the rest of the day...

hopefully its bad fuel....

good luck

air in fuel line or pump

Hook 12 Volts to your fuel pump and you will be able to tell if it is loading the pump . you could spin it backwards to to see if something is caught in it but with out a gauge that's were I would start. With the 12V hooked up start you sled see if that helps.

I feel the y pipe and see if both sides are getting warm. If only one side gets warm then the other side is not firing. Ive alot of them that the injectors stick. I use some jumper wires from a 12v battery and flash the injector both ways. Only touch it for a split second though!! Thats usually got them to go for me.
Hope it helps

Whats been done?

Is it a turbo?

Yes it is. Finally figured out what it was. The BD box with the sensor wire to the Mass Air Sensor had been plugged in to the wrong spot. Without the Resistor in place it didn't want to play. Still chasing a PV issue, but at least this one is out of the way.

good to see you're gaining some progess on it....whats a PV?

may i add some for thought about hooking up 12V to the fuel pump...i carry and simple 9 volt battery and 16" of wire, its a great way to see if the fuel pump is going bad or is bad, a good fuel pump will hold rock solid pressure....and a bad one will freak out and the pressure will range from 20-60psi, oh it may fool you and hold pressure for a bit, but just get a new pump if it ever freaks out....took me awhile to figure this one out:o

I changed the spark plugs and worked fine after a couple pulls.

funny you say this....got my new project sled started yesterday, forgot i had the temp switch in bypass while priming the turbo oil pump.....few start/stops later she would not start, new plugs and she was fine:beer;

PV-Power Valves. They just flat refuse to work. CCU error code for bad solenoid. It's not, but threw another in just in case. Tried a new ECU since it supplies the power to the solenoid, even CCU, but those freakin valves just won't open. Cables are spot on for length, and not bound up in any way.

Great idea on the 9volt battery and the fuel pump btw.
