08 m8 ecm recall

I got a buddy that just got a call from is local dealer about is new m8 something about replacing the ecm because it is not up to cats standard they said he could ride it until the new one comes in.They made him check to see if it had a square or triangle on the ecm has anyone heard of this?

Can someone tell me if the ecm mapping is lean or are they just going out

There's a fix (new replacement ECU) in the works for the sleds that are seeing a false Code 21 error (knock sensor) on 800 engines covering VINs 111005 through 116379.

I am mildly confused. i have a 78 instead of a 98. Is that the desigantion of model? OThere wise my othere numbers are in the upper spectrum.

Probably; mine's a 28.

The key I think is to look at the last six of the VIN.

yup, mine flashed 21 error code and falls within recall Serial number range. Dealer verified which box and has new one on the way

Good News

Oh this is great news for me. I've been getting the ECU21 ever since the first ride. My dealer told me to run some different gas, and if it still didn't go away, to bring it in. I'm out of town, so I don't know if I'm in the VIN # range, but I figure I must be since I keep getting this error.

Are all the M8's in that VIN range affected?

Just curious if all M8's withing that VIN range are to have the ECM replaced, or is it only if you get a code 21? My wife's M8 falls into that range, but so far is working well with no issues. Any cause for concern? Thanks.

I know that my wifes 08 M-8 always would be in reverse when she started the sled. Local dealer gave me a box off a new sled on the showroom and that fixed it..

I just started getting the ECU 21 fault on my last couple of rides (300mi). It happened several times during the day, seemed like it still runs ok tho.I guess i better contact dealer.

08 m8 with ecm recalled

Apparently the previous owner didn't do the ECM recall on my '08 m8. I started getting the ECU 21 flashing continuously as soon as I start the sled as of last weekend. I have a trip planned for next week & I don't think the dealer will have the replacement ECM (if that's how they still fix it) before I leave.

If it is just the ECM recall and not the knock sensor, does anyone know if the knock sensor still functions when that error code occurs? I'm running a race gas turbo & it seemed to run fine last weekend, but I'm concerned about not having a knock sensor for the next trip.
