08 M8 clutching

IDAHO HOT SHOT

I took my dad's 08 M8 out today. It is the first time that I have ridden an M since my 07 back then. This sled ran pretty good, but lacked RPM's. I did notice that the belt was sitting pretty flush with the top of the secondary. I couldn't get the R's out of it that I needed. If anyone out there has a stock 08 and could give me some info, it would be really appreciated. After riding this sled, I think I am gonna switch back to cat. Even though it didn't run to full potentail, it still got around pretty good.

Probably a new belt would sit a bit higher but you could try removing one of the thin shims in the secondary and replacing it with the thick one that should have came in the tool pouch, i just did that and the belt sits perfect now, i had tried just adding the thick one but it was to much sled will creap forward or backwards if you have it shimmed to much.

X2^ Also make sure you are running the correct weights and springs. I could be wrong but for that elevation I think you need 73 gram weights, and a yellow spring in the Primary. Can't really remember for sure if thats right. Maybe someone on here will know eh?

Like I said before, I dont know what its got in it, but i did hear that they run better the more weight that you throw at them. I was blown away by the way this sled plowed through the snow. my buddy's 800 Dragon would pass me on the hill, but I could still go as high. I am a dragon man myself, but after the crap that i have been through, I am thinkin green.

That's exactly what I did. I got fed up with Poo and ended up with a Cat. Best decision I've made in a long time. Although I would like to ride the 2011 RMK. Looks pretty sick if it will hold together.

I've also got an 08 M8 and run at the same elevation in Idaho. Mine's a 162 track, so it was having a problem with clutching and holding enough RPM. 7800 is the target max RPM for it to hold. The belt is definitely too loose, like others said add shims in the secondary so that the belt is sitting about 1/8" above the sheaves. My dealer suggested adding 2 pre-load spacers to the secondary for additional load on the spring (stock is 2 spacers), replace the primary clutch spring with an SLP blue/yellow, and then I had them grind the weights down from 73 g to 71.5. It made a world of difference and pulls much harder, I could've even gone lower on the weights to gain a little more RPM.
