Looking at getting an m8 but having tough time finding carryovers in the 153's. Alot of 162's around though. Sled will be ridden here in N.D. just as much or more as it will be in the Mountains, so I am wondering if I should go with the 162 or 153? Is there a noticable difference between the two? I will be going from a Firecat so it will be a noticeable difference for me anyways.

When I was looking I wasn't sure of which I would prefer, and I was coming from a Mountain Max that was extended to 144".. well I ended up finding a really good deal on a 162 and couldn't be happier. It climbs and climbs and is still really easy to tip on its side and play in the powder. I can't compare it to the 153 but the 162 is awesome.

I am very happy with my 153, takes me everywhere I wanna go. I like the fact it takes less power to push a 153, more zip zip and track speed I love the agility of the shorter track- the longer tracks make you feel like a freight train point and shoot rather than s carving. They both have there place however I think the M1000 is a better choice for a 162. I would get an 08 M1000 hold over in a 162 rather than an M8 in a 162. Just my .02

depends on the riding you're doing.. if you're in any kind of real steep and deep any rider worth his salt will tell you go with the longest track you can get your hands on... there are several other threads out there on this topic... get the 162 and don't look back... I believe the latest math is 4.5 more inches of track on the ground... isn't going to make that much difference in carving... but will for staying afloat and climbing... I love the 162 and would only ever go longer, never shorter.

I am leaning more towards the 153, just because of the fact that I don't do alot of steep and deep climbing. Trouble is finding a 2008 153 carryover. Only one I have found close to me is a used one just traded in with 350 miles, they are asking $7500 for it. For the same price I can get a 2008 carryover 162 with no miles.

350mi aint very much, it should still be under full warranty especially from a dealer. My 08 M8 153 Sno Pro was a dealer demo I bought on jan 3rd. It had 403 Mi- paid 8250 out the door. Make sure the track is perfect, belt aint trashed, 350mi Is nothing and is new just past break in. You may want to consider it.

I would buy the 153 if you have the option. As far as trail riding goes I don't think either length will make any difference. Neither one is a good trail sled but I don't think you would be able to tell the difference between the 153 and 162. Not sure if that made any sense...sort of rambling. :)

I respect your opinion but I beg to differ, the 153 is a rocking trail sled and there is quite a difference between a 153 and 162 especially on the trail. They both have their place.

After searching the forum, actually using the right key words, I found alot of discussion on this, and it seems to be pretty much even between the two. But, I think I will be going with the 153 with 350 miles on it. $8,088 out the door, that includes the clutching for us flatlanders too.

I have two 07's 153" and 162" for I and the wife. The 153" is funner to ride, but you can't beat the 162" on the deep days. My 153" has the SLP pipe kit intake and clutching and is much faster than the 162", but the 162" will still outperform it on the hills and in the meadows when the snow is deep.

If you like to boondock go with the 153, its still really good for climbing. If you wanna be king of the hill grab the 162. I never rode anything shorther in the last couple years and have learned to climb and boondock with a 162. I dont think there is ever a need to go longer unless my willie gets smaller...........

I guess I have a small willie................

I would get the 162, unless you find a 174! Personal choice, I think you have already chosen. -00's

I bought a 08 m8 153" new this year and i love it 4 feet of fresh pow this weekend no problems at all it really impressed me and IMO the challenger track works real good in the deep, i am not ready to put a power claw on yet i would really like to try one first should get the chance to soon. Both lengths have their place depends where you mostly ride you won't be dissapointed with either choice.

M8 162

i have an 08 M8 with the 162 and it is a BREEZ to throw around in the powder it also climbs like nothing but i would NEVER buy a 174 M8 that is stock .. it would definately have a hard time turning that big of a track in the hills.. but either a really well set up M8 that has some power or a turbo M8 then i would have a 174 on it

162 vs 153

I've got a 162 M8 that I trail ride in the midwest when not out west. Forget all the huey about hard to turn a 162. Mine is a breeze to handle anywhere and it will get out of more stuff in the mountains than a 153. 162's also have better resale. Ever wonder why there are a million 153's for sale and not nearly as many 162's?

Either length will work well in the deep stuff. I wanted the reassurnace of the 162.

Im only 14 and not a very big kid and i can throw my M8 162" around all day without any problems. Had it out to day on some harder snow and could carve with little problems. Get the 162" that way you wont be shown up on the hills. just my .02
