08 m1000 shaving head

Good day. Sled is stock with all updates other than Powerclaw and MBRP can. Anybody had the M1000 head shaved to bump up the compression? How much can be removed safely? Have no problem running premium fuel if needed? Would a person be better off just buying an RKT head? Thanks.

you will get more power out of a rkt head but i have done a few of the m7 sled with a head cut 10 and they did pic up some more power without issues

by cut 10, you mean 10 thou off the underside, correct?

I work at a machine shop, so if I take my M8 head off im sure i can get it done for free.

Elevation will dicate what compression ratio you can run. I would recommend buying an RKT head over shaving a stock one, the RKT has much better cooling on top of the added HP and you can swap out the domes with the RKT head. I have an 08 M1k with an RKT head with 13.6:1 ratio and I ride 3-7K elevation. I think you could get away with a 14:1 above 6K but I would consult Kelsey at RKT before buying one. If you keep your eyes on the swapmeet you should be able to find one for cheap and if the domes are not the right ratio for you I think Kelsey will work with you on trading them for something that will work for you.

Ask a few guys with the Xtreme M1000 rmx kit how well cut heads work on the M1000. I don't know anyone who has left them the way they came.

It worked on the M7 , not sure aobut the M8, but on the M1000 I have yet to see someone who was happy with a cut head.

I had the RKT head last year. This year with the advice of a trusted builder I'm going with a cut head. Will let you know.
