08 m1000 questions

I am getting a holdover 2008 M1K. I can't seem to find a lot of information on this year with the searches.

I would appreciate any helpful info on this sled, good points, bad points, specs, good mods, bad mods, likes, dislikes, etc...

I am coming off a 2006 M7 162, and loved that sled. It is currently for sale on here as well. I am just wondering how the M1K stacks up.
Thanks!

Get some side vent it will save you some belts i used 2cool air vents

Set skis to 39 inch

2-3 Inch bar riser

Drop the front of the suspension down 1 hole (youll have to drill it out) This will help with the trasfer

A torsion spring secondary kit also impoves back shift and helps with belt life.

Power claw will be a big improvement

A RKT head and Y pipe really woke ours up but you need a controll box so you might as well add a single pipe while you at it. This should put you at about 180 HP (slp is a lot cheaper and all ceramic but i think speed wrex gets a little more ponies out of it)

BDX intake will save some weight and works good, but i did like how my sled sounded afterwards (Too much intake sound)

Boss seat is always nice.

Revalve the rear suspension

The list goes on and on it just depends how far you want to follow it

Hope this helps

depends on rider stile and where you ride, if you live in dry fluffy pow areas you may be disappointed if you leave it stock. The m1 is only worth having if you mod it. If you do get egts. Do your best to make it a 09 and add full pipe(slp is good and easy 192hp)

Hey what do you mean by do your best to make it an 09? Just wondering i also just bought an 08 M1000 holdover.

convert

I own 07 m1000-and I can bet you they are referring to getting the tunnel mod and cut it to taper back.
This is huge improvement:present:
Dump the secondary and get a CPC or RKT conversion for that also. the thrust washer addition in the secondary is a band aid- need to get it to backshift, and these kit's improve it.
The Timbersled rear suspension makes this sled get up and walk on TOP of the snow, this is better than ANY pipe set-up!!!!!!

If you pipe it or put a head on it - that's OK, but if you cannot manuever through the snow cause of the tunnel, and cannot get the back shift, then spending your money in the right places FIRST is what you need to do before you just start.:beer;
But that rear suspension needs assistance, and the GEO mod is the most economical- ( do a search on here) I-don't know if it will be still on cause of the conversion to this new format we have been bound to

If there were any factory updates to be done make sure the dealer did them. I believe there was an ECU update for that year and possibly a CCU update. If there was an ECU update you might want some input from the guys on here as how it worked with the update.

Hope this helps if there is anything I can help you with let me know

Do not get the '09 ECU update..........

X2!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Because, if you do any mods that require a fuel box, the motor reacts better with the 08' mapping. The 09's just run way to HOT! JMO. 07' mapping still reacts the best. I did the 09' reflash and it took quite a while to retune the box.

Thanks for all the useful information. I do have some questions:

Going west: What did you mean by drop the rear susp. down one hole? Cold you clarify that a little more?

I was talking to the local Cat dealer Saturday, and they claimed that if you do any mods to the M1000, you will need a fuel controller. I had a BDX intake on my M7, and really liked it, and did not use a controller. I was hoping to do the same on my M10. Has anyone needed a fuel controller for the 1000 to put the BDX kit on. It just seems kind of unnecessary in my mind just for an intake. My M7 didn't run any different with the BDX, just didn't plug in deep pow anymore, and was a little noisier. A fuel controller seems kind of extreme for a minor mod, but I just want to make sure...

And for further modding, I am looking into the new Boss Noss wet nitrous system. Talking to Boss makes it sound great, but I am have only been able to get info from Boss on it. Does anyone else have any input on the new system? It is a purported 60 hp shot, that mixes nitrous and race gas at the nozzle for a true wet kit, making it somewhat more safe and stable than the old dry kits. Of course, when the bottle goes dry, your sled still turns into a pumpkin again...

I you look inside the tunnel were the front of the suspension mounts you will see a suport plate that has 3 holes in it but only the one hole (the one that cat uses form factory) is drilled out. Unbolt the suspension and drill out the hole just below the factory one and reinstall the suspension. This will help get a little more transfer out of it. You might also want to install a anti stab kit just to be on the safe side.

As for the nos i dont think you can run more then 50 hp with out some race or av gas. (I even think that 50 is on the edge, thats what we ran last year and when we tore down this summer we had a little bit of detonation on all the pistons by the exhaust ports)

Powerclaw, rear tunnel, two wheel kit, If you do the reflash you can get electric engine reverse and ditch the mechanical reverse and drop 9lbs or so. Any mods you do to a m1 could make it fail. I recomend egts and some way of controlling fuel. Nos is a good way to ruin a motor. the m1 is more or less a stroker so every stoke is longer leaving nos in the cylinder just a second longer to burn things up. and why to it when you can get close to 200hp all the time with the right mods for $1500.

the suspension needs help but a stock m1 with ts skid is not going to keep up with a full piped m1000.

Thanks for the clarification on the suspension.
The new Boss Noss system runs a separate bottle of race gas in addition to the nitrous bottle. From what I understand, the race gas and nitrous are mixed at the nozzle, and injected directly, making the new system a true "wet kit". This eliminates a fuel controller, since you are not relying on your injectors for the additional fuel. I have not been able to get much more information than that from Boss, though.
It seems that the general consensus lies with piping and putting on a fuel controller. Of course everyone knows about the SLP pipe. Are there other pipes that some are having good luck with as well?
Could you expand on getting the engine reverse? Just the reflash of the ECU will do that? I have seen the removal kits for blocking off the holes of the removed reverse, but I was not sure if just a reflash would take make it engine reverse capable.

Thanks for all your help!

After reading threads about guys getting their ecu's reflashed, and then getting my 08 M1000, I rode it and it ran great! So I disregarded the reflash notice. If you do a search you will find that most guys that had their ecu's reflashed were unhappy and had a bog in their throttle! So ride it first! Mine comes right off the throttle! NO BOG WHATSOEVER! Just my .02
