08 m1000 Problems or issues

Don't waste your money, by a 09 its worth it. 08 blow belts, not that great of a fuel map, heavy, old track sucks compared to the PC,half of them seem to have DD problems. But some run great. oh and a 09 m8 will beat a 08 m1000.

I have an 08 M1 and haven't had any problems with it. I did gear it way down, and when the gears were changed the stock ones were cracked all the way through (can't believe they didn't break). And I've blown 1 belt in 600 miles. Gearing and vents definitely helped with that. I haven't had mine reflashed to '09 specs yet because I've heard conflicting stories. The PC track is FAR superior to the stock 08 track, but that's an easy switch.

Either buy the '08 and spend time and money trying to make it as light as the '09, or if your budget will let you, just buy an '09!!

I got a smokin' deal on mine and the '09's were out of my budget at the time. But I don't regret it!

This depends alot on rider weight... :D

I weigh 210lb, so anything lighter than that the statement stands in my opinion or in powder, the 09 weight track and tunnel are next to none in the fluff.
To make a 08 a 09 you would have to change out the diamond drive $900, PC track $550, rails ? $500??, 2 wheel kit $150, electric engine reverse at least $70. Rear bumper mod $400. Over $2000 for sure and more if you had someone do it. I had a 07 that ripped but is nothing like a 09. Just my thoughts

You are absolutely right. It would cost a BUTT LOAD to get the 08 to where the 09 is at, weigh-wise. But some people just don't have it in their budgets.

As far as the weight thing. They claim the 09 is 22lbs (approx) lighter than the 08. Well you said your 210....I'm only 170. Seems to me that's a 40lb difference ;) :D Me being as light as I am is my excuse for not throwing money toward aftermarket lightweight parts :beer;:beer;:beer;

you would def beat a 08 m1000 if you where riding a 09 m8.

If anyone is looking at a new 08 its still going to be around 8k if you can afford that then move up, if not move down and mod. the upgrades and the resale value is well worth it.

I have a 08 m1000 sp my belt went way past 1500 miles not to brag but i weigh heck of alot more than 210 , i would love to weigh that much! all stock but had a bog once when powder got in hood. Been a good sled

I was lookin at a 09 m8 but this 08 m1000 came up and seems like a good deal if i did get it i would put the new pc on it. thanks for the info i am going to do some more research on the 08 before i decide

Nothing wrong with an 08... Especially if it is cost effective even when adding a powerclaw.
There are some advantages to the 09, but the 08 with a powerclaw will dang near be a toss up performance wise with an 09.
Service the DD often, vent it and ride it.

I had a stator go out on mine just out of warranty, but cat paid for it anyway.
I'm at close to 3000 miles and my clutch is getting worn, but other than the stator, no issues.

I was told by product tester that the '08s have different (weaker) gears in the DD than the '07s. He said the '08s are only spot welded and the '07s were fully welded. Gear it down with some gears from BDX and problem is solved.

You mean other than you riding it there haven't been any issues :)

Dude you need a new parts guy.

You don't need new rails and a BDX 2 wheel kit is $20, if you are paying $150 for a 2 wheel kit you are getting HOSED. You can buy an 09 bumper for way less than $400.

I may be off on the $$$ of how much it cost, just making a point. I have a 09 so never had to buy any of it just about what I've heard????

Putting on a PC track makes a huge difference but it still wont touch a 09. I have put stock 08-09 m1000's and m8's against each other all with PC track and the 09 win noticeably. In the fluff I have seen a 09 m8 beat a 08 m1000 with pc track but the 08 m8 with PC cant beat the m1000. The weight diff makes a huge diff in powder. It may not happen this way all the time, just my findings. 08 is a toss up 09 you wont be disappointed.

If you got 1500miles on the belt your the first I've heard of.

The advantage of the m1000 is if you mod it, it comes to life. If your not familiar with mods go with a 09 m8, easier to mod.

How much do you weigh, what do your riding buddies ride, where do you ride, and what kind of riding do you do.

Ride alot with family on trails and all around riding ppl of Mcall one i believe owns dealership helped me get the strings of it left of the belt out of my secondary . I think there a great sleds either year . Are the newer models better yes all get ya there. p s that was first time i had a belt go that long. One thing i wish for as i get older is wish they wieghed half the weight lol.

This last spring I was riding the 09 without a hood and with the extra power from being pipe it felt like half the weight, climbing on the last 6" of the track. One thing about the 09's is you have to learn how to ride again because of the way they pull the skis off the ground.

After coming off of an 07 M1000 163 to an 09 M1000 sp 162 I have to agree with Wyoboy. Get the 09 if it's in you budget, it really is worth the extra coin.
