08 m1000 just died question

Yesterday my 08 m1000, mostly stock, y-pipe, - ran great for about 10-15 miles then burped and died. My group pulled and pulled and pulled... Then checked connections.. It started one time then we shut it off to put the belt on and when we tried to start her again nothing could not start her..

We let her sit for 20 to 30 min and it started again after 2 pulls.. Ran for 1 mile and I got a CCU + wrench and 18 - two flashes later it burped, studdered and died?? This is a bad servo motor code. Then we pulled her to a trail let it sit for another 60 min.. Had a couple of burgers and when we went to pull it out it fired up easily again on the second pull.

At this point I shut her off again and put the belt on.. Again.. It fired up on the second pull with the belt on warmed up and ran great for 15+ miles of everything I could throw at it.

No codes burps or studders the rest of the day. I have 899 miles on it and this is the first time anything odd has happened.. It fired right up cold this am no problem..

Has me a bit confused..

Any ideas why or what this could be or anything I should look at?

i think its the 08 mapping. My buddy's 07 m1000 ran perfect all last year. This year he got the mapping updated to 08 specs and it does the same sort of thing. Runs like a raped ape, and then it will just die and won't start. Let's it sit, then it'll fire right up and run hard all the rest of the day. Pretty pathetic that AC is not fixing this issue.

had it happen to me.turned out to be water in the fuel.the injecters dont like that.a little heat and a ounce or so of oil to keep feul pump lubed in every tank.so far no probs.

JV,
When we got home from riding with you I started Abby's sled, took me 1/2 hr & when I finally got it started it flashed CCU & wrench, I guess I didn't look to see what ## it was showing.

It has been intermittently hard to start, then showing CCU. If I shut it off then re-start it goes away every time.

It's never done what yours did up there, but it bugs me that it keeps flashing codes at me. It has never started with under 4 pulls, It's always tough to start.
Sounds somewhat similar, this has happened over the last 500 miles & many different gas stations, pretty sure it's not fuel related.

If you find anything out from tech, pass it along.

INtake??

are you running stock intake or aftermarket? My buddy and me run aftermarket intakes on our 08 m1000's hes got a D & D and i got timbersleds. If there is the slightest little openening where the seal is it will get wet. Like buddy said there the injectors hate that, it will start but wont run. You will be pulling and pulling. Take your pipe apart from your y pipe and check your piston walls and piston for scuffing. If it took on any water youll notice it right away on the walls. My .02

Snomoboarder is running stock intake, we're running a black boxx. I have other friends with the same intake & never had a problem, I see what you're saying about the water, but that would rear it's head EVERY time we ride pow if that was the problem.

Yesterday was a rather dry day, not likely that water was the problem.

So we should make a point of riding within 50 feet of the house or so????

That seems like something cat would expect of us!

I'll give that a try, but all the vents are covered on our 08, so not likely that much moisture is getting in there.

Thanks for all the info I will look into it a bit more tonight as last night my brother and tomi had their first child at about 7:30 pm..

Kinda puts a broke sled into perspective..

I doubt water got into mu ecu tube as all that stuff is covered in heat tape. I left the tube end open though so it is a possibility.. I could switch the ecu's from my brothers m1000 to see if it changes anything... But this would have to happen on the hill after this acts up again.. And as stated above gettin him out in the next couple of weeks is just not going to happen..

Maybe water in the fuel both of us did fuel up at the same gas station so I will try that as well and I will do the injector cleaner as well.

Also my m1000 was stored inside of heated shop kept at 60+ deg for 4 days before this ride. I take her in after every ride to dry out. It is in the same shop now..

If anyone thinks of anything else to try let me know.. I may get a chance to look in to in further tonight and will keep posting results on this thread.

Just one more question. If water does come out is the ecu usually ruined? Or if I dry it out good will it go back to normal..

I could cover the end of the tube with some anti snow fabric then heat tape and that should keep the water out some.. Just thinkin about it.

Don't think it hurts the ECU just makes things short out and run bad. If you find water i would see your dealer. Don't plug the end of the tube it is your berometer screen may help. Not saying this is your problem but it was one thing my dealer mentioned to me they are starting to see a problem with.

OK.

No water in the ecu...

Checked out all the cables to the servo motor and found no ware points.. Started here as that is the only code I saw and it only flashed a couple of times.

Checked out the key and starter switch.. Both are ok.

Found one ware spot in one handwarmer that is it..

Checked out the tail light and everything was ok..

I did not pull the gas tank as some have said but that will be next.

Hope to get her out in the next couple of days to see how it runs. If the condition does return are there any other ideas or things places to check.

Local shop here has had several come in with similar problems. Make sure wiring harness from ECU to the servo motor is good. Use Electrical grease on all connections and "double" if not "triple" check the wiring harness. Most problems that come and go turn out to be bad wire someplace. Local shop could buy your sled for the amount of hours they had into finding two of the wire shorts. The one was under fuel tank and other just out from servo motor. The other two were getting irregular voltage readings due to shorting or arking where harness hooks into the ECU. After electrical grease was added it fixed one unit. The other had shorted enough to ruin the harness. Good luck I hope you stumble into the fix soon and let the rest of us know.
