08 Dragon top end rebuild. Should I dig deeper?

Hey people. I am putting in the MTNTK Fix Kit after a bog problem. I found that there was scoring on the mag side cylinder running right across the intake ports, and a few small wear marks on the PTO side as well. I was chatting with one of the guys at the dealer the other day, and he said I should check the mag side crank seal. :/ There is no burning on top however, and the plugs are the same brown color on both sides. I was ingesting snow at the start of the season, (I also over heated it on the trail last year, maybe that had something to do with it) which I am thinking is what caused it. I have also found that the oil pump is running a little lean. Do you guys have suggestions on this? I am itching to get this back on the snow, but really don't want this to happen again. Thanks in advance!

According to the dealer that I bought it from last year, there was only a few hundred miles on the updated top end. The oil pump isn't majorly lean, probably 1-2 "pointer" widths below the 2 alignment marks on the pump body.

Looks like it got hot.. Bog after overheating? Looks like you caught it in time. Cylinder ok? You want your oil pump ratio 40:1, check skirts very closely for cracks, and skirt to case clearance

thanks man I'll try and reset the pump tomorrow and start reassembling. I did over heat on the trail last year :(. I did a little honing on the cylinders and they look pretty good now.

Pistons look typical for a Dragon, all the fix kits I did were same general wear as yours. Overheat is a no-no and would look like that failure. Make sure you use scratchers on the hardpack and keep it cool. Anytime you are not in loose snow they will climb in temp until they overheat, in particular if you are gaining altitude like on the ride up at most riding areas. No harm in turning up the pump a little also. The three fix kits I did all showed heat discoloration on the wrist pin bearing so they could use a little more oil in the bottom end.
Just as important is a good warm up, everytime, no exceptions. Do those things and the fix kits seem to be holding up well.

The score marks on the left piston are typical on all of the motors I have had apart with the stock pistons. Always on the intake side. They are obscured on the right piston in your picture by the smear which looks like a heat squeek, perhaps light on oil so your on the right track. The score marks are where the piston skirt will break off and drop down which will often take out the cases. You got lucky catching it before it was worse, trust me.
