08 Dragon 800 - repair costs?

I have a 800 that lost the PTO crank pin bearing - put a hole in the bottom case, one cylinder is nicked up, and one piston is damaged - basically the engine is junk. What repair options do I have? How much will the parts cost? Is a complete engine a good option, and if so what are people paying for them?

Also, if a new engine is purchased will it have any improvments that will help this sled last a little longer? This one went 1600 miles and had the update (new pistons) done 300 miles ago.

Thanks

A polaris 800 crate motor is $3600ish to $4600ish depends on who you ask. If you go that route get a 2010. They have a thicker cylinder skirt. You could maybe find a used lowerend and buy a re nickelsel cylinder for a lot cheaper- you will just have to shop around. I don't know what a new lowerend cost- If you google Polaris Parts " Babbits" will come up. They can give you an idea what everything cost on their parts finder. Good luck!

Ouch! The sled is not worth much more than that - with all the problems with this sled you would think Polaris would give up some of their profit on the sale of these parts - how much are they making from my problem?
Also, I assume if I buy a crate engine, it should be the latest design and last longer - is this correct?

Thanks for the input

yeah cmx had the best prices for 800's If it were mine i'd stick a 08-09 700 in there with some porting and a head...much better engine. The update dual ring low compression is crap btw. They pull like 90-95 lbs compression.
i figure if my friends 09 with stock single ring pistons and bd turbo runs 12 psi with ZERO piston issues the duel ringer lo comp is a bandaid at best. And the second ring will in fact (call slp or carls) take a crap at about 500 miles, often messing up the ringland as well so plan on pistons every 500-600 miles...junk idea.
