08 dragon 700 ?

Hey Guys,
Last year I rode a 08 dragon 700 and I loved the way it rode. I found a nice one for sale and I am wondering what you guys think of the 700. My biggest fear is it won't have the power I am used to. Current sled in a 04 arctic cat 1m 900. What mods would I need to do to make it run with the 800's?

My other option is look for a cat m8 or m1000, what would you guys do?? I am just toooo scared of the piston poppen 800 polaris motor to buy one.

Thanks,CFS

I think it is the best 700 ever made. Super reliable and setup right out of the box. But if you want 800 power, buy an 800. There are a few things this side of a turbo you can do. Some might point you in the direction of an SLP pipe but I found the best gains in a local shops high compression head kit. Depends where you are as this doesn't work down low. Do a search, you will find a lot of posts on the 700.

If you like it go with it!!:face-icon-small-coo I ride 08 D7 and for the past two years i have had no problems. Sure, if you wanna find the steepest hill and make the highest mark then of course an 800 has more power. I have not found one place though, that my buddies on the their 800's could get to that i couldn't and i am the same size as them.(about 180 lbs.) All i have done is put a slp can on(just to lose the weight), setup my gearing and clutching how i like it, and some small tinkering with the tps, exhaust valves, and other small stuff. Like i said before i run with my buddies and their 800's and have no problem climbing or boondocking!! And the best thing about it is that it is pretty much a pull and go sled! Thats just my two cents on it. If you get it I hope you enjoy it, now lets start prying for snow!!:face-icon-small-ton:face-icon-small-ton

You will probably miss the torque of the 900, but that's about it! LOL The 700 is an overacheiver. :thumb: It is consistently GOOD. Beat up on 800s? No, not unless they aren't running right. Go where they go with the confidence that it isn't going to stumble or squeek, absolutely! :face-icon-small-coo Probably the best thing I did to mine was put the Challenger Extreme on it... now she'll just keep on a motoring along. Love it!

Unless you're strictly point-n-shoot, go with the 700 and don't look back. Great sled and highly reliable. Just like the other guys and gals said.

Too bad Poo didn't slide that motor into the new Pro chassis. We'll all see how the 800 motors do this season. Hope they got it right this go-round.

By it for the right reason. I loved my 700 but I did feel underpowered at times. I guess I always do, but the 800 torque was nice. People are so biased on here. Don't be afraid of an updated 800 either.

Thanks for the feedback.... decisions decisions..... I have always rode cats but last year when i hit a stump a buddy said here ride my 700 Dragon, I thought ok better than nothing. Well, I loved the way it handled vs. my 04 1m 900. The power seemed kinda close to my 900 but we were boonin and not climbing. That same day I rode a 07 m8 it was ok but I loved that 700 Dragon. Wife says do what i want, I can even get a new machine if I want. The 700 Dragon I have spotted is super clean with 2,000 miles slp can and he wants 6000.00. What would you do if you could pick the dragon or 2010 m-8 snow pro or I gues a new Dragon 800????

go with it ive had one for a couple years and i love it. it goes were
I want it to go and wereeveryone else goes with out any problems. Compare you current HP and current torque to the 08 700 you might be surprised i havent looked but they might be comparable if not the 08 700 might be higher. Im thinking about putting a different track on but dont know if i want to fork out $700 good luck and you wont be dissappointed

iam not biassed and i wanted an 800 but i couldnt get one at the time, since then i have rode a couple of them and one guy was really pissed after he got off my sled "we switched" but i have not been on one or seen an 800 go good these were stock sleds.

But definitly switch tracks best thing you can do to that sled the stock track is HORRIBLE everybody who has switched has loved it

There is your answer. Being able to enjoy riding a sled means a whole lot more than just having the biggest engine. Whether you end up with a 700 or 800 won't make as much of a difference as being able to enjoy the handling of an RMK.

A great rider makes the sled great, a great sled does not make a rider great!

Good Sled

I had an 08 D700 and loved it. There is a small but noticeable difference in the D7 and D8, but I didn't think it was enough to worry about. We ride with several D7s and several D8s in our group. We all made in to the same area's. Plus, we didn't have any problems with the D7s but the D8s did. That reliability alone makes the 7 an awesome purchase.
Half of us ended up putting BD turbos on and then there was plenty of power. At that point it isn't about the difference between the 700s and the 800s. It's a difference between turboed and non turboed. IMO

Might shop around some more 2 buddies of mine just bought 08 D7's. Both had 800-900 miles and one got his for 5k the other for 6k.

Are the updated d8's holding up? My local dealer has several used 2010 d8's for sale with the motor update. What are your thoughts??

thanks again

The reason the D8's went down was a lean spot in the mid range. This was fixed with the update and flash (which also made the det sensor more sensitive to avoid burn downs). After the update, the only sleds that I know of that went down were ones with voltage regulator problems. I never saw it myself on 4 sleds (all 800's) in the family. Polaris did go with a different company for voltage regulators on the Pro Ride.

Hey, does that one interchange with the older IQ's ????

Buy a new Pro-Ride and be done with it :face-icon-small-hap

Well my local polaris dealer made my mind up for me today. He took in a mint 2009 m1000 with 300 miles and since he doesn't deal in cats I picked it up for what he had in it. $5500.00 If I don't like it I shouldn't have any problems getting my money back out of it.

Thanks for all your help... I wanted the D7 but couldn't pass this one up.
