08 D8 water pump seal???

:Cry:My water pump seal went out so I installed new one. the problem is put all back and still leakin out like crazy!! not possible to see the leak but it seems to be from under pto side of case. can only see under from can side. Can removed. any trick to replacing this thing. was care ful not to destroy it driving it on. there is no water getting the case just leaking from(weep hole)into belly pan.

when you repair it again make sure that there are no grooves in the shaft. If its got a groove no new seal will stop the leak, you'll have to replace both the seal and shaft to stop the leak.

I have'nt had to repair that yet, but if there is a seal install tool I would use it. I would look up what the tool is and how its used , but my computer with my service manual on it has crashed. I can however tell you that when a special tool for a seal is made it is either to protect the seal lips from damage when installing or to set the seal at the proper depth.

special tool?? no one told me about it when i got all the parts. any one know the part # ??
:hurt:
NO SURPRISE!! toy mechanics seem to think that they should be the only ones to work on your sled! good thing they don't have to work on any thing else. ase master tech doing own work should know this needs a "special tool" or I'm sure that's what i will be told when i go tom get one!! HAHA. I asked for every thing needed to do this job. as polaris red flagged my waranty after rod crapped and they said it was the slp pipe.

the water pump seal instillation tool is crucial... saves the seal and sets the proper depth (8.9mm). part number is 2872389 and you should be able to get it through your dealer for around $20

The tool is definitely something you'll want to get. I won't say it's "impossible" to install the seal without it, but definitely difficult. The other thing I've done is to apply a "small" amount of an anaerobic gasket sealer to the shaft before setting the seal - I think it's Loctite #518 if I'm remembering right. If there are any small grooves or dings in the shaft, it will help seal things up. Its only a "metal to metal" seal on the shaft, no gasket or factory sealer like there is on the seal O.D.
