08 D8 Trenching problem

I have an O8 D8 163, SLP single, Carles clutch kit, heavier Polaris springs in rear suspension (I way about 230 lbs), top gear lowered one tooth ( I believe 19/41 gearing), other then this the sled is total stock. I like the way it runs. The motor runs strong. The biggest problem I have is the rear suspension trenches terribly bad. Any ideas on how to lessen the trenching problem. I don't have enough money to add new suspension, so please any help on setting up the stock suspension better?

P.S. Is the 19/41 gearing better? I do have 42 tooth bottom gear I could throw on it.

I was going to post the same problem!!
I have the same setup with the same problem.
Went out with some pro's and they got up on the top of the snow so much better than me.

On my 09 I took the front track shock and put it in the lower hole (on the top). This helped a lot with the sled always wheelying when climbing, and gives a slightly better aproach angle. It may help a little with trenching, but not sure... couldnt hurt though.

on my 08 d8 i put the front track shock in the lower forward position and tightened the limiter straps all the way to the top hole and rear spring in the stiffest setting. it is a little harsh to ride on whooped out trails but works awesome in the deep.

lay it down

I also have an 09 D8 and run my front track shock layed down in the bottom hole. It solved the trench issue for me and my friend on his 08 D8. Simple to do and made a big difference in the deep.

Had the same problem .. tighten limiter strap. And shocks... gearing it doesn't really change trenching but I put 19/42 and I think that's the best setup...

I have and Assault, I helped it by tightening up the limiter strap, and moving to the RMK hole on the suspension. Limiter strap was the big adjustment.

Thanks,

Getting lots of snow going to try Top hole for strap and front lower angle hole for front shock.

I will let you know how it works.
I had the strap in the bottom hole! Don't know why but this sled allways felt light on the skis.

Thanks guys for sharing this :D I will try this on my sled too :D
It`s free and hardly any any work so why not.
I love pulling wheelies but I also want the sled to stay on top of the snow so why not? :)

Also I've been told move the back scissor at the rail back 5/8" cuts sag so you can run back springs at medium

I sure noticed with the suspension full of snow and ice the back has lost all its spring ,looks like a rear spring has broken.
Has anybody actually tried this mod ? I will defanantly look at doing this.
My bro has a pro and I have a d8 163 looking at the marks going up hill in deep snow ,seriously looks like my sled is dragging a snow plow and his sled is on top and keeps moving forward up hill.

I have, it's a great free improvement that can be returned to stock if you want. What do you have to loose? Here is a picture that I used for reference.

scissor mod

Give Curt or Justin a call over at Fast tracks Motorsports: 253-848-0908, they can explain the benefits of moving the rear scissor back. I am doing mine soon. Curt is on here a lot, search for FTXMOTORSPORTS, they are super helpful!!!

You can do all the suspension tricks you want but it wont fix whats wrong with it. I couldnt figure out why my dragon would almost get stuck on a flat road with 2ft fresh when some nose heavy 4strokes would take off and barely trench. I swaped out to a camo extreme that will be my first mod to any polaris that i buy.

Typical snow conditions in your area will dictate which tracks work best. No one track is "the best", check with other riders that ride where you do. Ride what you have if you plan on selling anyways, and make suspension adjustments that are free and easy. Good luck!
