local dealer has an 07 d7 for $6000 and an 08 d8 for $7000 , both have a slp single,155 track and around a 1000 miles, other than that they are stock, which one should I get?

My opinion is that it depends on your type of riding. I love my 700, but if more of my riding depended on steep climbs I would go with the 800. They are basically the same sled. Personally, my 07 D7 has been a great machine and if you ask most owners they won't part with theirs...they are one of the best machines Polaris has produced.

You will get a lot of guys that will bash the 800 and insist that the 700 has the same power.

NOT SO!!!

I had the 07 D7 and now a 09 D8. On the top they are similar, but the D8 has noticaby more grunt down low. The problem is that you need to get it dialed in a little more than the D7 did stock. A fuel controller and some clutching and you can make it perform awesome! Make sure it has the updates, PCV and (you'll love this mountainhorse!) a camo extreme track! I cut my track down 1/4" and it was a world of difference (and a little more snow evacuation).

The D7 is great. But you might find yourself hoping for more and there's not a lot more to be had until you step into a turbo. I did a high compression head stock pipe mod and it really ran awesome. Had Holz front and rear and Evol shocks. I'd say I could run with any well setup stock D8. I always liked riding with the 800's and going where they did and sometimes out riding them. It was fun to look back and say, " yeah, I have 100cc's less than you".

If you can get it to Canada, I'll sell you a well setup D8 for the same money.

i took the 08 d8 for a test ride this weekend, has good power with the slp single but had the dreaded mid-range stumble, almost went over the bars once,it's in great shape but the mileage is not at 1000 it's at 2500',will a pc111 or pcv fix the stumble, also what should it be running for rpm's,only got 7800

have the dealer do the 10 update to it to start...(new pistons, head, and reflash, this is a warranty repair but the sled must have all stock parts on it when they do it)) then get either the pc-3 or 5 and run either dynotech or slp map..then see what it pulls for rpm...there is a good clutching thread on here that should get you close...I turn mine 8300-8450 rpm wise(where it runs best for me)...
