08' Computer issues again...NOOOOOOOO! Da.. it!

Ok, been down this road all season last year. I chased performance issues with the 08' m1000 I bought from a dealer here in N. Utah.
Towards the end of the season, I had a brand new ECU installed, DD rebuilt and a few other things in addition to the 09' updates. I never did ride it after that, just rode the 09' xp for the remainder of the season!!
Went out tonight to start it up before I start installing some goodies and the f...... computer started to smoke and melt in front of my f...... eyes!!!!! WTF! is it gonna take for this F..... toilet to just RUN????
SO, again, back to the dealer (after Monday Holiday) and pray that someone can get this Port-pottie to run as it should!! Any ideas other than a bad ECU or possibly a short or current overload??

Glad my 09 XP "F..... toilet" is not the only sled having problems:mad:

SPeaking from lengthy experience

Glad my 09 XP "F..... toilet" is ot the only sled having problems:mad:

Yeah JohnnyH, Lucky for me I have plenty of F..... experience with this F.....n toilet. I can speak from experience I own an 09' xp as well as the 08' toilet I bought from my dealer.
Now, back to my question, any ideas the computer would melt and smoke in front of my eyes? Surge or short??
It is still under warranty, just a huge pain in the arse!!!

pinched wire??? would look into all the mods and repairs that were done last, something is probably melted or got pinched when installed, at least a good place to start...

I had heard of something similar with a wire under the gas tank that gets frayed? It just doesn't make any sense?? It is in its stock form right now and I haven't touched it all summer other than fogging it with some oil....
Not a good start to say the least.

Had the tank out of an 08 there is alot of places that wires could get pinched undr that tank. There are also alot of rivets real close to the harness.

I have seeen this when the wiring harness is pinched under the gas tank. Guys will replace the ECU and not find the pinch in the harness and then the ECU acts like an expensive fuse. Look under the tank first, when you find the bad spot have them replace the harness and you should be good to go.

Hope this helps if there is anything else I can do let me know

gas tank

Thanks my friend.

Got a idea?? We do a N. Utah Doo ride.
What are your thoughts on doing a N. Utah Cat Ride?
That is of course if I can get this thing to finally run in its stock form first!!
Thanks again,
D

I agree with the idea of a bad wireing harness, my buddy has a 07 M* that he bought new in the summer of 08, pulled that sled out three times and it took three time for the dealer to finally change the wireing harness and presto many rides with no problems, sled would just shut down and would not start, then like magic you could get ot started to drive it into the dealers...like to drove us nuts:D

XPBEOTCH -

Lemon law that damn sled. nothing but problems for you. get all your money back and start over with an 09 m1000. Is that an option? this sled and your dealer have been pretty tough on you and all you did was buy a sled from them!

Thanks for the support

I am a therapist, starting to think I may need some therapy when this all said and done.
Thanks again,
bringing it up to the dealer today.
Lemon Law: would love to, heard it is pretty drawn out though??

From my experience, you have a short in your wiring harness. It will take you twice as long to find it as just replacing the harness. I have seen a couple and you spend all day disecting the harness to find it and then have to replace the harness any way.

See if you dealer can call Scott W. at Arctic Cat and get a good will approved on the harness and ECU or partial ECU. They want you happy.:)

The question I have, were you blowing fuses before. Another thing I see is guys putting in a big fuse and then it goes right into the ECU before the overload smokes your ECU.

Thank you for your time/insight with this issue. I have never touched any component on this sled other than a trail side throttle cable fix last winter. I don't know enough about Cats to even muck with it. The wiring harness theory makes sense though. I dropped off the sled tonight already.
BTW, shoot me a pm on PC track, should I happen to get the cat to run good in stock form, I will want a track from what I hear.
Thanks again,
Dan

Apparently, you guys were spot on with the wiring harness and shorting out my ecu>> Kind of expensive fuse for Cat though wouldn't you say??
Thanks a ton, sent my tech in right direction, spoke to Scott at Cat and got a new ECU, Wiring harness coming. ALso, found a home for that large black bolt that I found in the belly of my brake side. Goes to the back side of the drive? He says he put lock tite on it and put it back in... Kind of scary but, found a home for it...
Thanks again, you guys rock!

Great to hear.

As I was reading down this thread I knew it was the harness. I have a 08 and it did the same as yours. But the tech found the short under the seat and fixed it under warranty. Been perfect ever since. Good luck! :beer;

Would that also account for all the boggging, chitty performance last winter?
