i just bought the wife a 08 800 dragon. it only has 361 miles on it. the update has been done. it is all stock. what does it need? the bumper seems weak who's should i get to replace it. vents? any help would be great, Thx

X2 on the Skinz bumper from Sled Solutions. Great quality and fits perfect!

What kind of riding does wifey do? If she pounds the pow I would think a set of Better Boards would be a good add. If her hands get cold easily then maybe the RSI hi temp grip heaters with a soft ODI or similar grip over top. Maybe an under seat bag or the Skinz tunnel bag for all her stuff.

How does your 08 start? Mine was 2 or 3 long pulls before I calibrated the TPS. Starts way nicer now. Many shops have take off elctric start kits on the shelf too. I would think you could rack up some real brownie points for that.

Maybe a Muff Pot for a warm lunch on a cold day. For my wife it was all about good riding gear to keep her warm and dry. Proper helmet/goggle fitment is important too.

As for that particular model I would do the following for preventive purposes:

Make new grounding wires from the ECU mounting plate to the chassis and to the motor. Use a marine quality 8 ga tinned wire with heat shrink epoxy connectors. Search my name (EricW) in the advanced searches and you'll find where i have posted this with good pics. this may well save you the dreaded ECU, Reg, Etc, fry downs.

I would also replace the left front motor mount bolt with a better grade ARP bolt. You find that with pics in my past posts as well.

Keep an eye on the chain case cover and see if possibly your dealer will hook you up with the OEM fix or just get an Avid billet replacement. Remember too that the chaincase drain plug strips easily.

If in deep pow, it's a good idea to separate the intake plenum and re-silicone it to keep water out of the air box.

Beyond that, get the bars and headlight set up for her and let her go. Hope she enjoys it. EW

We fried an 07 700 prior to the fix. Maybe 4 or 5 hundred miles since with no issues. That sled is well vented too so I dont think heat was an issue. I have never been into a 600, but if the assembly over the clutch is the same for the electronics I would think it would be a candidate as well. I have heard talk that the electric start models are not as prone to ECU smoke maybe due to the battery and related grounding wire.

The OEM grounding is based in aluminum and can become loose or powdered over time causing the ground issue is the theory. Grounding securely to chassis and engine just made sense to me. I might just be runnin lucky though.

Here's a few pics I could find quickly. EW
