08 700 idle issues

I have a 2008 rmk7 with SLP single pipe and can, SLP big intake kit. Otherwise it is stock. I run Amzoil interceptor or Shell Advance oil. I have never touched the idle screws or TPS.

I cleaned the powervalves earlier this year, but it has been ridden since once with no issues.

Yesterday Pulling it out to lend to a buddy it didn't want to idle. Thought it might clear up so we headed out.

At the unload, it was the same. I thought it might not like the new NGK plugs I put in it, so I used my spares, which are the stock champions (new) - no difference.

It idles just fine if you hold the throttle open slightly. It also pulls and rides as it always has (near perfect, I love this sled) it just refuses to idle. It will stay running, but it is so low that the gauges and lights shut off.

Anyone had this issue?

Any of the engine guru's here have an idea where I can look for an issue?

idle is controlled by the tps...i would check that out and reset it. i built a tester with parts from radio shack and did it myself. all the info that you need will be in the increasing your iq section that is pinned at the top of the iq section.

My 09 700 RMK did the same thing right after installing the SLP pipe and intake kit. Took it to the dealer and had them adjust the TPS. Idles and runs great.

It could be the T.P.S., but if it just started happening..........

Look for cracked /torn throttle body boots

There's a new updated version from Polaris approx $50.00 and a P.I.T.A. to install, just hard t get to all the bolts

I talked to the local Polaris dealer (M&M performance, Kelowna) about this, mentioning the TPS . He asked about the mileage (around 2500miles) and suggested I try cleaning the butterflys, saying that carbon and blow back might have clogged the idle gap between the plate and body. They were right, as well the throttle bodies were becoming corroded at the mounting points to the reeds and airbox. So a little scotch brite, carb cleaner, and lthium grease she is back idling as new.

Thanks to M&M and members here who helped.

Was it carbon or belt dust.?

You may want to check the air box for gaps and duct tape them up if need be.

There was some carbon, but I think you were right with the belt dust. The boot from the mag side throttle body to the mount plate was not seated properly when I removed it. I didn't think about clutch dust until you mentioned it. I have the inside of the box and the bodies cleaned now, so I will disassemble after this weekends ride and check to see if everything is sealed up.

What are these "butterflys" you speak about? What exactly are we cleaning? Sorry if silly question......
